All I've been hearing for months now is how the army is already being stretched beyond its means, they haven't been meeting their recruitment quotas for several years and reservists are choosing jail time over serving multiple tours of duty beyond what they were originally told they'd have to serve (the so-called "back-door draft"). So where are these thousands of new troops supposed to come from?

You have been lied to.

We are stretched but we're still managable. The National Guard and Reserves have meet and exceeded their recruiting goals. There have been VER FEW instances of jail time over deployment. I can't think of a single instance in the KYARNG. We do serve multiple deployments but that's part of the mission. I'm on my second deployment but it's taken me 20 years to finally get deployed.

We have enough soldiers without a draft as long as something else doesn't bend or break. If it does, people need to step up and serve their country, anyway.

you're able to desire to bear in mind that neither Bush or Chaney or Rice have any genuine defense force adventure in any respect. maximum of his different advisers serve on the exhilaration of the President and want to maintain their jobs. below those circumstances that sounds like there'll be no changes made contained in direction of the Iraq concern that the President is already reported that he's adversarial to which includes assembly with Syria or Iran. working with the worldwide places surrounding Iraq is a pragmatic physique of innovations. i assume consequently that is out of fashion.

Democrats wants to start the draft. Military is not hurting for Troops. I do think your statement is false about reservists. My Dad is a Major, he got a big laugh out of your comments in your question. He said, poor Media brainwashed person.

They are discussing DRAFT right now for EVERYONE age 18 - 42. A mandatory 2 years of service for every American. That's where the troops will come from. Write to your Representatives in D.C. or you're going too!!

Reservists are choosing jail time? Really? Like, ONE reservist. Listen to the first answer. That is the beginning of bumping things up. After that, there's probably going to be a draft. That's my guess, anyway.

Well you heard wrong, the military is meeting thier recruiting goals.

2006 Army enlistment and reenlistment data:

The active Army recruited 80,635 active Soldiers, 101% of its goal, the most since 1997. 7,000 more recruits than in 2005.

The Army Reserve recruited 25,378 Soldiers in 2006, 99.5% of its goal of 25,500 . 6,000 more recruits than in 2005.

The Army National Guard recruited 69,042 Soldier 98.6% of its goal, the most since 1992. 18,800 more than in 2005.

67,410 Soldiers reenlisted in the army in 2006, 105% of the goal of 64,200.

18,243 Soldiers reenlisted in the Army Reserves in 2006, 103% of its goal of 17,712 .

41,152 Soldiers reenlisted in the Army National Guard in 2006, 118% of its goal.

Overall, 175,000 people enlisted in 2006, more than 32,000 more than 2005.

It doesn't sound like any recruitment problems to me.

And this was accomplished while the End Strength of the Army active, reserve and national guard were all increased

What 2or 3 want to go to jail out of 500000. Most ask to go back, want to go and do it willing. The numbers are not that far off on recruitment.

No such thing as a back door draft. When you sign up you agree to abide by the rules. No such thing as you can only send me so manny times to war clause. Stop listening to the press they don't know what they are talikng about the Army will be fine. Its their job to protect our interests and i think they do it well.

americans are capoble to provide soldiers up to one million or more.
