When you pray for someone, is it because you feel that your god is more likely to help someone if more people pray for her or him? Do you worry that god will not help someone if she or he is not prayed for? If not, then what is the purpose in praying for someone?

I think a lot of praying for someone has to do with self guilt.

I do pray for healing but, if it isn't in God's plan, the person I'm praying for won't be healed. I know this before I pray. Prayer does work, when it's in God's plan. I pray to God because, I feel it is necessary. I know God has an ultimate plan for all of us and just because, someone I love has passed away because, my prayer wasn't answered, I will not let my faith waver.

Because when you pray you pray that God will act in some Providential way. For instance my first girlfriend and I were praying for her unsaved mom who was in the hospital, the mom happened to pick up a Bible near her bed and randomly opened it up and the first verse she saw affected her so deeply she became a Christian. Now she may have done that even if no one prayed for her, or she may not have done that even if we still prayed for her, but its best to take your chances and have as many people as possible imploring for divine intervention. Maybe more prayers put things higher on God's to-do list, I don't know.

Jesus prayed to God to forgive the people who put Him to death.
Jesus prayed for all sinners
Jesus prayed at times of trouble
Jesus prayed before performing miracles
Jesus prayed before and after meals
Jesus prayed that God put His healing hand upon the afflicted
Jesus prayed and accepted death.
So we are to pray too!

Praying is a way of giving extra love and energy to something. Energy is swirling about everywhere all the time and we can tap into it any time we want. Some people call this energy God. Praying is a means of tapping into the energy, putting a desire and request for good intention out in the universe.

God will take care of thoses He loves, even if nobody is praying for them. The reason why God tells us to pray is He wants us to comunicate and stay in touch with Him. He wants to hear from His children.

When I'm praying for someone it is generally that God would merciful to that person during a trying time. For example, when someone loses a loved one. I pray that God would comfort that person. When someone is sick, I pray for their healing.

I know that I generally cannot help that person, so I pray to the one that can.

Praying, logically, is pointless. God, theoretically, is all-knowing and all-powerful. So if person X is in trouble, God has already determined the outcome, good or bad. Praying can't change that outcome. God has said "I'm going to give person X cancer and they are going to die". Prayer assumes that you can somehow change God's mind. If so, God wasn't all-knowing when he decided person X was going to die.

In short, get up off your knees, and save your breath.

I pray to "God" to do what is best for that person and if it is his will to give him or his family what they need.
I do not worry if someone does not pray for a person as worry gets one no where and that is between the person needing or wanting pray and God.Pray is important for all.Thanking, praising worshiping not just when someone is in trouble or sick.

It's sad and disheartening to read these foolish questions. The Bible is the inspired word from God as a Revelation of Him and his Kingdom, How we got hear. What He has prepared for us and the His wrath for unbelief. go ahead and side with the beliefs that tickle you ears. Some don't believe in Heaven because it sounds to good and refuse to believe in Hell because it not what they want to hear, it's all there in black and white and red. ignore it if you wish, that's just what Satan wants.

Jam 5:16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
