I've had a 101-102 degree fever for 2 days straight. Time to go to the doctor? I also have a stopped up/runny nose and a wicked cough- spitting up all kind of nastiness- and a general feeling of crapiness. I've always been told by my thrifty parents that a fever is a good thing so long as it does not get too high or stay too long, and that when it comes to colds- doctore can only give u things that allevuate symptoms but not cure you. Still 2 whole days with the fever is worrying me. any thoughts??

101-102 in an adult isn't that high, and would be considered low grade. Yes, your parents are right. A fever is your own immune system fighting whatever it is that is making you sick. I can't tell you to go to the Dr or not, that has to be your decision. And yes, if it is just a cold, the only thing that the Dr's can do for you is give you medicine to calm the symptoms. But it will make it more bearable. I hope that you feel better soon. Good luck!

Well, it sounds like you've got the flu. If the fever does not subside in a day or two more, I'd go to the doctor. If you don't have the flu, you likely have a sinus or other infection (and the fever will persist longer than if you had the flu). You can take fever reducing medicine (ibuprofen, aspirin, tylenol). I'd do the chicken soup + bed thing and see how you feel tomorrow. Get well!

p.s. and a doctor could give you a prescription for antibiotics if it turns out that you have an infection -- that will make the infection go away faster, and tax your system less.

LUKE WARM BATH WILL COOL YOUR TEMPERATURE DOWN. DO THIS EACH TIME, DON'T WEAR THOSE LONG
PAJAMAS. DO WEAR BOXER SHORTS AND A TANK TOP OR
NO SHIRT. SLEEP WITH JUST A SHEET. TAKE SOMETHING
THAT HAS TO DO WITH YOUR SYMPTOMS, DON'T TAKE
TYLENOL THAT DOES NOT HELP AT ALL. I KNOW SOME PEOPLE SAY IT DOES BUT IT DOESN'T. JUST MY EXPERIENCE. TAKE ALLEGRA FOR YOUR COLD OR NASAL
SPRAY IT REALLY HELPS FOR STUFFINESS. I HAVE
ALLERGIES AND THAT IS WHAT THEY PRESCRIBE ME FOR
MY ALLERGY'S AND IT WORKS. AS FOR YOUR FEVER TAKE
THE BATH UNTIL FEVER GOES DOWN AND TAKE MOTRIN
TO REDUCE THE FEVER. SPITTING UP THE NASTY STUFF
IS OKAY, AS LONG AS YOU BRING IT ALL UP THEN YOU KNOW YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING GOOD. DOING THIS
CLEARS YOUR LUNGS, SO SPIT AWAY, THE COUGHING IS
DUE TO YOUR NUGGIE IN YOUR THROAT. TAKE COUGH
MEDICATION TO RELIEVE THE IRRITATION FROM THE COUGH. THE MOTRIN WILL ALSO HELP WITH THE CRAMPING. SO LIKE YOUR PARENTS SAID WORRY ONLY
IF YOUR FEVER GETS HIGHER THEN 102. AFTER YOU
SOAK IN THE TUB YOU WILL FEEL BETTER WITH YOUR
FEVER. IF YOU HAVE DIARRHEA THEN DON'T EAT SOLD
FOOD, THE MORE YOU EAT THE MORE YOU POOP. JUST
EAT SOUP AND DRINK PLENTY OF LIQUID, SO YOU WON'T
GET DEHYDRATED, ALWAYS KEEP YOURSELF HYDRATED
EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE FEVER.

sounds like you have a cold...
drink plenty of fluids, stand in a steamy shower twice daily to open up the nose and get rid if the snot, avoid milk and cheese (make snot thicker and harder to cough up), sleep with a humidifier or vaporizer so you do not dry out at night since you can't breathe thru your nose, when you roll over at night, take a drink of the water you put on your night stand, take tylenol and alternate it with motrin every 4-6 hours for fever control...you may have this for 7-10 days...
good luck

poor fella, I got one of those a couple years ago, it made missed work, you need to go to a doctor, fever more than two days is not a good thing, your doctor will probably prescribes some anitbiotics...take them, within a day you'll feel much better.
Hope you feel better.

THER ARE 2 WAYS YOU CAN LOWER YOUR TEMP. 1. TAKE ASPIRIN 2. PUT ICE PACKS ON YOUR HEAD.......THE REASON YOU DON'T WANT EXTENDED HIGH TEMP. IS CAUSE IT FRIES YOUR BRAIN....BUT ALSO SINCE WE HAVE ANTI-BIOTICS THIS GOES TO THE CAUSE.....PERSONALLY I WOULD TAKE 1000 MG. OF VIT. C TWICE A DAY & 2-3 ASPIRIN ON A SEMI FULL STOMACH....

call your doctor so it can be determined if you have the flu or something else that they can give you antibiotics for (you can't get antibiotics for the flu!)
