How big is your dog? Unless it is a miniature or small breed dog it should cause no problems. Any of the medium and larger breeds will just pass it through and you'll find it in their feces tomorrow. Even some of the smaller breeds might be able to do that. If your dog is a miniature definitely a trip to the vet tomorrow. If it is a small, medium or larger breed give it another day. If the dog stops eating, drinking and moving it's bowels, then the dog needs to see the vet. Be prepared for poking through some disgusting canine fecal matter to find the penny.
I just thought of a little nursery song: find a penny, pick it up, and all day, you'll have good luck, pass it on, you'll have good luck, the whole year long!
I wonder what you are going to be doing with that penny when you find it!

Several years ago, my 6 month old cocker spaniel jumped in my lap and grabbed a popcyle out of my hand and swallowed the whole thing (including the popcycle stick)!!!!! I was scared to death and she started acting like she didn't feel well. just so happen, we were going to get her fixed soon anyways (we didnt want puppies) and they did exploratory surgery while they did that and everything and found nothing! A month or two later, she passed the popcycle stick WHOLE in her poop one day. We called up the vet and he couldn't believe it. If that can make it through a dogs intestines that only weighed probably not even 10 lbs, I think your 55 lb dog will be okay. I would take her to the vet and get her checked out though. Give her plenty of water and make sure she eats so hopefully if she did swallow it, she will pass it too. Good luck!

I really don`t know the answer, but if ur sure it was only one penny, I doubt if anything bad is going to happen overnight. The fact that a penny contains copper is worrisome, but since ur taking her to a vet tomorrow is a smart move on ur part. There is probably a site on here that would tell u the effects of ingesting copper. Good luck to both of u. I think ur safe for tonight.

Watch if she is pooping alright. She might poop it out, indeed, but it could also block her intestine. If she is fine from that aspect in 2 days, still give her an Xray as a precaution, because I just saw a news flash about some penguins in a zoo swallowing pennies, that had to be surgically removed. Of course, dogs and penguins have different stomachs and different intestines, because penguins are birds, so don't worry too much!

Don't panic!! Unless a small breed, t-cup or smaller,or a puppy under 3 months, o,r or, or whatever you fell most comfortable with most dogs of comparable shih tsu size, and bigger will PASS it on through, I would give them some grease about a tablespoon ASAP to help the process.

i ought to say it relies upon a lot on the dimensions of your canines. less than 40 kilos, i ought to absolutely flow get the x-ray finished. Over 40, purely upload some rice, pumpkin, or diced greens like she reported; the fiber ought to help to artwork it out of the body. except you're seeing indications like soreness, vomiting, both constipation or diarrhea, or lack of urge for nutrition, I actual should be too aggravating. Like she reported. your canines's gadget shouldn't smash down the quarter or launch something poisonous, and see you later as its a mid-sized canines or higher, I very a lot doubt there'll be any worry passing it, on account that funds are exceptionally small with out round edges, and on account that they're flat that is purely about not available for them to reason intestinal blockages. i imagine the 2d vet purely needs a touch better padding of their wallet, to be straightforward.

You can try giving her hydrogen peroxide to make her vomit it up. If she is a small dog (less than 5 lbs), she may have to have surgery to have it removed, but if she is larger it should pass on its own without problems. The main problem with coins is that they decompose in the stomach and intestines which can cause a metal toxicity, but if the pass quickly they will not usually cause a problem.

Watch her closely. If the copper was damaged and zinc gets out, that can be toxic, so if you see any behavior/neurologic signs, that's an emergency (it's rare but it happens).
