My Grandfather served in New guinea with the 27th air depot group (army air corps) He brought pics back to the states and told me a little about new guinea. Is it a safe place to travel and what is the best way to get there from AUS> we want to go to AUS first and than go to NG. thanks in advance.

If you're talking about PNG then it's not a very safe place to visit. In fact it's rated one of the most dangerous places on earth.

You can get a flight from Darwin if you're really keen.

tony b is correct its very dangerous but saying that plenty of Aussie's walk the kokoda track each year without incident,even our elite footballers at times, do the track as part of their pre season training
