Unless the person has some sort of sentencing order that says the record is to be expunged after a certain period of time, such a conviction will be on the person's record for life.

In California, potentially forever. And it'll be on your rap sheet for the cops to see no matter what you do. After the probation period has successfully been terminated, go back into court and get your record expounged (meaning get it removed from your "record"). That way, for all intents and purposes, the misdo is removed and the case dismissed. Otherwise, it stays on there forever.

In Florida, most criminal offenses are usually not removed from a history record unless through the process of expunction or sealing as provided by statute.

I would contact an attorney in your state and see if you can have your record expunged.
