The Great Vigil of Easter. Begins after sundown on Holy Saturday. It starts in total darkness and the flame is kindled as in the beginning of the world. Then the reading showing all of salvation history up to this holy night. Then the Pascal Candle is lite and the cantor sings and the candle is taken into the church which is all dark. Seeing the candle going into the darkness of this most holy of nights reminds us of Jesus coming into the world and the tomb from which he rose. Then all of the lights come on and the singing begins Alleluia, Alleluia... Christ is Risen.. It is very mystical and moving. It takes about 2 hours. I saw it once in the Orthodox church and it is 3 hours there.

A full moon ritual in the wilderness, UNDER the full moon, with the wind sighing in the trees, the sound of a river close by, and the cool grass under my feet. An absolutely glorious communion with nature and the Goddess.
