If it's just a little bit on and off then yes it can still be normal. It's called "lochia" and can last up to 4-6 weeks after birth which is one of the reasons why most post-partum check ups aren't done until 6 weeks.

The general rule is if you are soaking through a menstrual pad every hour for several hours in a row call your doctor immediately.

I bled for about 5 or 6 weeks, it was spotting for the last couple weeks of that. If you ever have concerns, you should talk to your doctor. They say that if you are breastfeeding, you dont have a period, but I guess I was the exception to that rule. Once my after-birth bleeding was done, it was back to periods as normal. No fair, lol. Congrats on your bundle of joy, and a pat on the back for being a nursing mother. If something doesnt seem right to you, just give your doc a quick call and see if they think you should come in for a check up. Good luck and God bless

It is normal. Some women even bleed 6 weeks. It could also be your period starting and you didn't know. Make sure to let your doctor know if you have any big clots though, it could be a sign that something is wrong. Good luck!

I bled for about 6 or 7 weeks after my last baby. I breastfed too and that's ideal for getting your uterus back to pre-pregnancy shape. It'll stop soon.

Ask your OB/gyn about it at your 6 weeks post baby check up, you're going to have an examination so if there is an issue you'll know in a week, right? Best luck to you and take care. Have fun with your new addition!!

It's normal, honey.
I bled like that until about eight or nine weeks after birth, and I bled more on the days that I had done a lot of moving around during the day. It's not a big problem.

Your body has just gone through a lot of trauma, it takes time to recover from that :)

Congratulations on your baby!!!!

Hai,

Don't be surprised about the bleeding after 5 weeks of delivery, for some people it happens, and another thing is that it no way affects your breast feeding to your child.

Don't bother. But do take care in your intake of food, as it really shows the affect on your child's health.

this happened to me. i bled for about three weeks, it went away, then i started spotting about a week and a half after it had stopped completely.my mid wive said this can happen around this time because most women start to become more "active" again. probably not your period, it takes about 6 weeks or more to get that back. as long as it's not heavy, or you don't have any clots, your probably fine, but it never hurts to give your doctor a call anyway.
also, breast feeding causes "contractions" that help shrink your uterus back to it's normal size so maybe it does have something to do with the spotting.

This bleeding is called lochia (pronounced "lok-ia") and should slowly go away. It should turn from red to brown to yellowish to white and then be gone. If you find that some days it's brown and then gets red again the next day it means you are doing too much and you need to slow down and allow your body to heal.
