i was on a NCL cruise last spring and they will keep it until the cruise is over. If you buy from the duty free shops or buy at a port, they also hold it until the cruise is over. They make a lot of money from the sale of their alcohol and they want you to buy it from them. if you want to sneak it with your water go for it...

Bringing liquor onboard at embarkation: Not allowed -- items are secured until debarkation day.
Bringing wine or Champagne onboard: Allowed, only if they are not on NCL's wine list. A corkage fee of $15 applies.
Purchasing liquor in port: Retained until the end of the cruise.
Purchasing liquor in ships' duty-free shop: Retained until the end of the cruise.

and yes...they do pay close attention...they scan your luggage and put a big sticker on it that says alcohol...then they find you and take the booze...

Why would you want to sneak it aboard? Just buy your drinks at the many different bars on the ship. You do have to be at least 21, of course.

However, if you want to bring booze on board, just put it in your checked baggage. No problem.

If you are under 21 and get drunk, you may find yourself put off the ship in the nearest port and have to find another way home.

I have gone on cruise's to the Bahamas. You get a chance to go to a duty free store as you are boarding, get your alcohol there and carry it onboard.

i am going on my first cruise in feb.cruisecritic.com has many threads about this.most say to just pack it in your clothes and dont say anything because they dont pay to close attention as they have a lot of people to check.if they find it they will either toss it or return it at deboarding time.buying on board isnt cheap as a 5th of vodka is $40.and drinks are 8-9 a pop.just act cool and dont bring any unwanted attention and you should be ok

My fiance and I just got back from a cruise and yes, they do check your luggage closely, including water bottles, so we got creative. I took an empty listerine bottle (the citrus kind) and poured my vodka in it. I used food coloring to give it a slightly orange yellow tint. They never suspected a thing!

Good luck!

Regardless of the suitcase you put it on, when you board, they make you scan all your carry on items as well.
