I told the hairdresser that my hair was naturally black (I always get asked if it's natural) and I told her that I wanted a chocolate brown. She then brought me samples and I chose what I wanted, they were lighter than my original hair color. She dyed everything, then blew out my hair, and had me pay 70 bucks. I saw myself in the mirror while I was in the salon and saw that I still had black hair, but I thought the lighting was wrong so I waited till I got home to really check it out. It was still black!! Then I asked my friends, they told me it looked the same.
My questions are, was she supposed to lighten it first and then put in the color or am I just out of luck? And am I entitled to a refund?

Yes, all natural jet-black hair need to be 'bleached' first before they can absorb new color. Find new hairdresser hun, pay a little bit more but you won't be disappointed. I don't know about refund, but if I'm not satisfied I just never come back to the same place or you can complain to the owner. Well, if the hairdresser is the owner then it probably won't do any good. But for good hairdresser you'd expect to pay about double than that.

You can go back and tell her the color is not right. If she refuses to make it right then you go to the person incharge of the store.

The girl must've been just out of school. Naturally black hair will not dye brown, because black is the main color. She should've lightened it with bleach, then added a brown cream to tone it down.

it happened to me too! i was so dissapointed at first, but then they told me that it's like that if thats your first time. it looks brown a bit in salon, but if only under the bright light, but when u go out, u wont see any difference, still looks black. yeah u need to be bleached first, or.. then u can color it again till 2 or 3 times, then your hair get used to it. remember to lighten your brown color till level 4 or 5.

dont forget to take care of your hair, go to salon regularly to get creambath, or at least you have to buy the hair serum or something else that they sell, so your hair will not be damaged.

Definitely highlights! Do NOT get black hair unless you are 100% committed to it and even then, proceed with caution! Black is SO hard to get out of your hair once it is in! Highlights are so much better. Based on the pictures you provided, the highlights would be very pretty on you! And they are very interchangable! If you get tired of the highlights, they are easily changed into something else and it will cost so much less to get them either taken out or changed in any way. The black will be more expensive in the long run if you ever get tired of it. You can also get more of a skater kid look by cutting your hair in a certain way. Good luck!!!

yes call her back and tell her you arent happy with your hair.. one she shoudl either give u a refund or get u back in the salon to fix it! as far a lighting first it just depends on the color line. if u are a level 1(black) you could go to a level 4(brown) without lighting 1st (IN MOST CASES with color) anything beyond that requires lightern. the level system goes from 1-10 one being black and 10 being lightest blonde!

You need to go back to the salon where you had this done and tell the stylist that you aren't happy. Give the stylist a chance to correct what she has done and if she won't do it, demand a refund. If you are a level one black, you should easily be able to go to a level 4 dark brown without bleaching.

well this happened with me too. I have dark black hair too . Basically it depends on what shade of brown you are getting. when they show you diffrent browns, the choc. brown is very hard to get on ur orginal hair. It is not easy to get black hair dyed. You probably needed to get the lightest shade of brown. Even I wanted to get choc brown but the lady suggested that since I have dark black hair, I should pick light brown so it shows off.

doing lighter colors on darker ones is very hard. I think she should use special colors on this.
