you'll be fine, doctor recommended is 7 hours and the bare minimum is 3 hours in order to fall into REM which is required to feel refreshed. plus theres study that suggest people who sleep less live longer.

Nice thing is, a sleep deficit often self-corrects without problems. For instance: 5 or 6 hours sleep M-Th, then 8 or 9 hrs F-Sat-Sun would balance out rest / sleep deficits. Shiftworkers must often balance sleep this way [various reasons]. They make it work.

Many people have a sleep pattern of only 4 or 5 hours sleep each night with no problems. Others need 9 hours. We're all unique in how much works best for us. It's how we're individually wired, if we're extremely physically active [or more calm and less active]. It also matters if one's a day person or a night person. Some will keep very erratic hours [their mind isn't still enough, long enough, to fall asleep]. Especially if unusually creative, they'll seem to have a larger reservoir of energy. It's their nature.

Test yourself and see how you feel, respond and function with 6 hours of sleep. Shouldn't take longer than 7 to 10 days to know if it works for you [or doesn't]. Some shiftworkers use melatonin to help them rest better if needing to sleep during the day. It's low cost, readily available and natural. Our bodies produce melatonin and as we age, beginning in late 20s or early 30s, the amount our bodies produce decreases. I've not had to take it for years but when working nights [10 nights on - 2 off] it worked for me. No side effects that I know of [except restful sleep]. Is available over the counter [in vitamin area]. Check online, ask your pharmacist and/or doctor and do good research.

If you are very healthy nothing much will happen really. Many people thrive on 6 hours of sleep every night for years but they must eat good and get exercise too. If you only get 6 hours of sleep and do not take care of yourself, your system will get run down and you will become susceptible to illness and disease not to mention you will probably be tired a lot. REM is the desired deep sleep that is required to repair the body and rest the heart. Some people can achieve this stage of sleep earlier than others and those that can achieve this stage of sleep sooner after falling asleep need less sleep than others. The less healthy you are the longer it takes to achieve this stage of sleep and sleep medications do not aid in acquiring REM sleep. If you are worried about it cut out the caffeine and go to bed an hour earlier.

You will wear yourself down.
I'm 52 years old and I normally only get about 4 hours sleep a night . I work a 6 day a week job and 12 hours a day all on 4 hours a night sleep. Been doing that for as long as I can remember. I think it all depends on what your body can handle.

nothing... I only sleep 4 and I'm very happy, alert, and focused. Actually I enjoy a day to the fullest. I work a lot, but then I paint, or watch a movie, or read, or answer questions.
Actually to be honest I have some kind of imsomnia and part of the year I do not sleep much, but then there are a couple of month where I fall asleep anywhere, anytime.

You may be a little tired but nothing major.

It's been reported that Einstein only had 3 hours of sleep a night and look how smart he was! So nothing will happen...just you may be tired. Your body will let you know quickly enough what you'll need.

You'll get tired, you'll probably get sick more often, but really you'll be fine.

If you only had 2-3 hours of sleep a night, THEN I would start to worry. But 6 hours is workable. Take it from a parent who survived 3 months of colic--6 hours is great.

i find that if i dont get enough sleep at night, i'm stressed during the day, can't think as clearly, my heart races sometimes, and i'm very tired. you're not going to die if you only get 6 hours/night one time, but if you consistently get 6 hours or less, i think you will notice a decrease in your ability to function in the daytime. at least that's what i've found.

What do you mean "only"? Your body only needs 6-8 hours to perform top notch. Some people would kill to "only" get six hours.
Consider yourself healthy and lucky.
