I think deep down they are looking for God. And they don't even know it.

First, fellow human, your sarcasm in "self-professed" is silly & transparent. I avoid R&S as much as I can, but Society & Culture seems always to lead me there! Curiosity? Yes, sometimes. I'm interested in knowing what other people think, if it's rational. As for, "...it takes no faith to believe there is no god" is absolutely true. Atheists don't have "faith." That is the very basic distinction. No faith or belief in a diety of any sort. Atheism is NON faith. So, why don't you just leave us all alone? Are YOU in denial to spend so much time attempting to judge us? Nonsense. Have faith in what pleases you; it doesn't really matter to me. I have never seen Atheists here who even attempt to convert Christians. Doesn't that say something? If you are listening...

Because many of us believe religion is the primary source for all of the worlds problems today. We try to get people to think logically and rationally without any religious excuses in order to make the world a better place. We think decisions should be made by statistics, probability, and the sciences (excluding any 'paranormal' magical or 'religious' science). In other words we think that faith in false beliefs makes people make bad decisions like strap bombs to there chest thinking they will get 72 virgins when they die, or a country sending thousands of people to their death in a war believing they will live forever somewhere else. Us Atheists here, want to make the world a more real and more rational place. Religions have done enough harm in the world, it's time to let them go.

I'm as irreligious as it probably gets within reason but I do believe in morality and spiritually . So what's the problem do think the Christians need their own place away from disagreeing muslims as well ...? Maybe they should subdivide the R&S category further?
Should Atheist go to the science venues as some preachy believers do ? I think your question deserves more consideration than your simple puzzlement and biased lack of broadminded recognition..

Because occasionally someone asks an interesting question that makes me think. And in Religion and Spirituality, the questions and answers are far more dynamic and open to interpretation than, say, Biology or Mathematics, and more meaningful than Fashion or Golf.

It's alot like going to the zoo.
I don't mean that pejoratively...it's just that there are so many different viewpoints flying around that it is fun to watch.
Some of us went through a lot of turmoil to reach our conclusions about religion. The subject is not without interest.

Because religion surrounds us and we are a disrespected minority. Because we have been lied to all of our lives and have been freed from the burden of religious dogma and we want to free others so that they do not waste the one life they have. Because religion is the most divisive force in our world and causes a tremendous amount of pain and suffering and gives the world nothing in return.

While I do not believe in God, I do think that whether people believe or not and how they answer life's ultimate questions says a great deal about human nature.

We're interested in religion. Isn't that why you're here?
Why are you asking a question about atheists? By your logic, doesn't that mean that you're in denial of your own atheism?
