A worst-case scenario would unroll if the United States were to launch a major air strike against Iranian nuclear facilities in the next few months. A limited air strike against a "choke point," such as the Iranian uranium conversion facility at Isfahan, would likely disrupt Iran's nuclear program for a long time.
Iran has six or seven possible and likely responses, all of which are devastating to regional and international security. They could strike back militarily, directly with strikes against the United States and Iraq or allies such as Israel. That's possible, although I would consider it unlikely. They could take military action to block the Strait of Hormuz. That's possible. They could stop selling oil. They could use their connections with Hizbullah, whom they fund generously every year to launch terrorist strikes against U.S. interests. They could increase insurgency in Iraq.
Some or all of the options will most likely happen. But the stakes are high...do you want a nuclear Iran, with a rogue leader making provacative statements about wiping Israel off the map, denying that the Holocaust happened...hhmmmm, i think we need to take that risk, even in face of the consequences.

Sammy ... If we don't bomb Iran's nuclear facilities, Israel may beat us to the punch. If Israel DID bomb Iran, reasonable people would consider that act justifiable.
After all, there's only one leader in the world spouting the most extreme form of hate AND suggesting that Israel should be totally eliminated and wiped from the face of the Earth ... and that leader is Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The consequences? I cannot venture an answer to that part of your question. I believe there are too many possible outcomes, as I see it.

The United States is not the nation that fears an Iranian bomb the most. Currently the most fearful include Israel and the European nations who will undoubtedly be in range of any Iranian weapon. Therefore, I would think that Israel, with a history of such actions, would be the first allowing us to take advantage of a strike without launching it ourselves. However, if we did attack Iran's facilities the most likely result would be a retaliation on Israel. It would be unfeasible for a direct strike on the US, but the Iranians would most likely strike Israel with missiles and order terrorist bombings against Israelis and US military installations in the Middle East.

Here's what should happen.....
Iran is trying to nuke Israel and North Korea already has nukes aimed at Japan. Along with us, Japan and Israel are famous for pre-emptive strike tactics (Japan practically invented it.) Along with England they're our biggest 2 allies, and we all share some of the most high-tech equipment on the planet. The problem is Iran is expecting the IDF and/or the US to hit them, and everyone knows Kim Jong is about the most paranoid mofo on the planet about anyone invading him but particularly US and Japan.
The one thing both Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong aren't expecting is for a pre-emptive strike coming from the OPPOSITE direction, away from where the Allies in the region are at. But if the IDAF and JASDF decided to suddenly switch opponents, then along with our own Air Force's help Japan could take out the facilities in Iran and IDF could hit Kim Jong. Both leaders would be so stupified by this that they wouldn't even know what hit them, and the rest of the world would thank us for doing it.
Afterwards if the Muslims had a problem with it let's see em try to get all the way to Japan who by the way has little to no Muslim population whatsoever or anywhere near them. No jihadist is ever gonna reach the shores of Japan, much less conquer it. Anyway most of the Mideast would probably be happy about it cuz their Sunni. Even better, for once nobody would yell at Israel for what they did because even China doesn't like Kim Jong and the rest of the region completely hates him. Win-win sitch for everyone except the Axis of Evil.

I hope not, even though there's nothing surprising about Bush !
Let's not forget, Iran is not Iraq, and they have more capabilities. If hypothetically happens, the casualty will be enormous, and will take long time. As i said, Iran is a different subject and much bigger country. I assume, other countries will get involved, probably WWII, since Russia has great relation with Iran. It's all just an assumption.

Yes, carriers deploying to the gulf right now, patriot missles (defend against Shahab-3's) in Iraq, deployment of F-16s to Turkey. Bush is sucking the Suadis dick's getting them to up oil output to combat the expected rise in gas and oil prices. Its all about the signs. Consequences? global terrorism the world has never seen, bombardment of Israel. All better than if the largest state sponsor of terrorism gets the bomb if you ask me.

No, but I do think it will be done by Israel with our full support. The consequences would be: No more nuclear facility.

Iran is too much of a player for us to just bomb their facility. There would be much more of a military response in order to be effective.

no, we wont bomb it, we will just go over there and take the country of Iran from them and take their facilities and put our military bases there, then become friends with Iran again and let them live there and they can have a defense force and nothing else.
