Religious tolerance means to tolerate the religions of others. I am saying this without insulting any other religion...unlike some of the others who have responded to this question. As a Christian, we are supposed to spread the Good News, but as Jesus also taught, we aren't supposed to force anyone, or wander from door to door...if a person tells me he or she doesn't want to hear what I have to say, then I don't say anything more about my beliefs. I have thousands of friends who are atheists, and other religions and none of them yet has told me I have pushed anything on any of them. Some of them have asked about it, and I tell them as much as they wanted to hear.

It's a good question. It very probably means (in this context), a willingness of people to respect other people's religious and spiritual understanding and beliefs. Sadly there is a lot of religious intolerance in the world still, and this leads to so many conflicts, doesn't it?! For much of the previous millenium, the Christian Church (which was run more by power hungry and greedy men than devout Christians) was extremely intolerant of non Christians - and even genuine Christians who didn't toe the Church's line (such as Cathars, Albigences and other deeply spiritual groups). Fortunately it appears that the Christian Church is now far more tolerant, but some other religions seem to be doing what Christianity did in the Middle Ages. That said, even as recently as than forty years ago Catholics and Protestants were killing each other in Northern Ireland (although the religious aspect was a bit of an excuse for many), and in some Middle Eastern countries the same is happening with Islamic factions, for example (Sunni & Shia). Hope tjhis helps a bit. Have a great 2012!

I think of it kind of like how a family holiday dinner. Family are connected by blood but they can be polar opposites when it comes to personality, preferences, beliefs, etc. But for the sake of the dinner, the gathering, for the sake of maintaining some kind of relationship, the people tolerate one another.
Religious tolerance I think means people of the world, who are connected at least by species, and who are of many different cultures, tempraments and religious beliefs, who are striving to have tolerance for one another for the sake of maintaing a world where we can co-exist. It doesn't necessarily mean agreeing, nor even maintaining friendships with those who have different beliefs (although this is possible and can be very positive) but it means at least 'live and let live'

Tolerance is not a virtue.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control are.
It does no good to be tolerant of stupid behavior, (like driving under the influence of alcohol). However, we must be patient with those that do, and try to help people rehabilitate.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

It's the acceptance, or tolerance of religious views that differ from your own personal beliefs. You don't have to adopt those views as your own, just tolerate them in others.

It's people who are one type of religion tolerating, or not bothering/hating on people of a different religion. Example: a Christian person is a friend with a muslim person, they like eachother but not necessarily agree with eachother's religion, but they don't disrespect eachother's choice to be in the religion.

It's kind of like getting over the idea that only your belief system could be right.
Accepting that others believe differently and that the difference doesn't make their beliefs any less valid than your own.

To tolerate other people believing or not believing as they wish. For certain religions, like christianity (and islam), tolerance is admonished. It is the duty for christians to preach and convert those who are not christian, hence tolerance goes out the door.

Respect for the beliefs of others. Security in your own beliefs but the openness to embrace others as well. Knowledge that God is everywhere.
