The DEP (Delayed Entry Progam) is just the time you're waiting until you ship out. Not everyone can go into the recruiter's office and ship out that week, you can get things started with the recruiter with the anticipation of shipping out up to a year later. Its basicly reserving yourself a ship date. Something that no recruiter will tell you....the Delayed Entry Program is NOT an obligation of any kind. Repeat, NOT an obligation. You can change your mind and back out at any time. No matter what oath you take during the DEP, nothing matters until the day before you ship out, those are your actual orders you're signing, and the real oath you're taking.

Delayed Entry Program is where you join the military but you do not actually go into a date some where in the future.I believe most military commiments are 8 years however I do not believe all that has to be active service which means you spend some portion of that in the Reserves. Where in times of emergency they may call you you back to duty

delay entry program is the time you are still in your hometown waiting to get sent to basic training.

example if you enlist in march for 4 yrs but the next basic opening for you mos is not until may because the last one was in feb then you are in the army(or whatev) when you swear in and get a temp id card looks like a dependents id card until you officially go to basic.
