what irresistible dish can you cook a girl when she comes over for dinner?

It depends. Pasta is always good, and usually pretty easy. Chicken is always a hit. You could do a chicken alfredo. It's pretty easy, and then add a salad (you can get the bagged salad already made, add some green onion, celery and tomatoes and you have a great salad!), usually a nice oil and vinegar based dressing is good, but find out what she likes and have that available.

Then you can do either breadsticks or french bread. You can buy the french bread in the bakery section and then slice it, add some butter, and but it in the oven on 450 degrees until the butter is melted and it's slightly crunchy around the edges. Breadsticks you can either buy already made, which is the easy way, or you can get a can of unbaked ones by all the canned biscuits. They are really good cooked with some butter melted on the pan and a little parmasean cheese sprinkled over them.

If you drink alcohol, a good wine with dinner would really impress her. I don't drink, so I'm not sure the best one to get. Talk to the people where you buy it and ask them what they would recommend for your meal.

For desert, a nice cheesecake is always yummy, or a nice chocolate dish. Find out what her favorite desert is, and then either see if you can buy it, or get a recipe for it. It would impress her to know that you researched what she liked!! Big brownie points for that!!!

In my experience, and this is not to offend or apply to everywoman but in the 20 years I've been in restaurants, and the 10 years I.ve been married, I can narrow down a few good options that woman tend to order alot,
I would stay away from pasta, although it's good and a lot of variety, it can be heavy and put ya girl to sleep after. If it's gotta be just keep portions and sauces light. Stay light you don't wanna feel weight down all evening by food, if shes into seafood, breaded shrimps or a nice white fish, broiled with some fresh herbs.
If it's chicken or meat
Chicken Marsala can't be beat.
For something simple but flashy, you can pre grill some chicken breast to just mark them, then when its the day of dinner finish cooking in oven with a nice sauce. Marinade a few days ahead and she may not let you make it through dinner, lol!

For beef a bacon wrapped filet, small and tasty.
Depending on your skills you can make rice or rice a roni. lol!
Garlic mash potatoes always a winner.
My suggestion is whatever you plan on gather all your ingredients a few days ahead. That way you can add ingridents, or mix things up.
Also have a staged course dinner start drinks, salads, apps, dinner etc. Enjoy the evening and take it slow no rush to eat. Set the evening mood in the end it won't be the food thats impresses it's the time and care put into it.
Enjoy!

I agree with the user above. The fact that you made the effort and you dont slap a can of spaghetti-o's together in the microwave will make her a happy camper. Make it a meal with some thought. Dont go for beef unless you know she is a beef-girl... however, as a married man, the most important meal is not the dinner.. it is the dessert. Make it good and probably it should have the words cheese+cake or chocolate or both somewhere in the mix. My wife (3 yrs and still going) loves to have dessert first because that is the best part of the meal to her, and if dinner makes her full, it ruins the dessert..... when its the other way around... can always take home leftover dinner. :o) She will love it either way.

If you want to seem like a good cook try chicken piccata. Take boneless chicken breasts and dip them in milk then in flour so they are covered in flour. In a pan melt 2 tbl spoons butter and a drizzle of olive oil. Brown the chicken over medium to low heat (watch the butter.. if it smokes or turns brown turn down the heat. Cook chicken 2-3 minutes on each side. after chicken cutlets are browned put them in another pan with a metal handle or use a small baking pan to put them on and place the cutlets in a 350 oven for 15-20 min depending on how thick.. (make an extra cutlet to cut into to test if your new at cooking no pink juices an its done!). Hopefully you still have all the browned butter in the pan you fried the chicken in if not just melt a whole stick if so add like 3/4 of a stick in the brown butter. bring it to low heat and once sizzling add1/4 cup white wine and juice of two limes. If you cant use wine you can use chicken broth and a pinch of garlic. If you use the broth stir 1 tsp of flour into it befor you add it to your sauce. DONT get the sauce too hot it will burn.. just a low simmer until it starts to get thick and you cant smell the alcohol in the wine any more. You can add a few cappers to the sauce at the very end to add color and saltiness. season with salt and pepeer and your sauce is ready. A simple 2 minute pre packaged wild rice is a good side and for vegy take some baby carrots and boil them for six minutes and then add cut up broccoli to water and cook two more minutes. drain and simple drizzle with a little lemon juice and olive oil. Put rice veggies and cutlet on each plate and maybe a store bought Hawain roll . Put like a tablespoon or two of the sauce over the chicken cutlet. Dessert you should buy.. go with cheese cake or something but buy a nice fruit syrup... likea rasberry reduction..or candied walnuts or something to garnish the slices with and plate them before you sit with garnishes and all and leave them refrigerated until your ready to serve and hide the box. Total time is like 35 minutes but if you new like an hour

This is ALWAYS a hard question to answer, with many variables factoring in: what she does and does not like, is she a vegetarian, does she have food allergies, does her religion factor in on how she eats or what meats she eats, is she picky, can she handle spicy, what's her opinion on sweets (some girls love sweets, some do not, some just cannot eat them - like diabetics). Your best bet is to ask her questions, or if you're too nervous to do that, ask one of her closest pals, see if you can get some help that way.

Assuming she is a fan of seafood - nothing beats a pan sear salmon steak (skin on, cooked til crispy on the skin side), asparagus spears lightly cooked in a griddle pan, and some potato rosti (homemade hash browns to you and I!).

De-glaze the salmon pan with some white wine, reduce by a third, then add in a couple of knobs of chilled butter, whisk and serve on top of the salmon,,,

yummy!

Can't go wrong with pasta...Alfredo sauce is safe if you don't know her likes and dislikes. It is easy to make from scratch and you can actually get some pretty good prepared Alfredo sauce as well...she won't have to know

I am sure if you dumped sardines out of the can she would love it. For the simple fact that you cared enough to make her a meal. I know my husband does not know his way around the kitchen too well, but the times that he has got up and threw a can of biscuits in the oven and fried some eggs and bacon in the morning for us, it made me melt like butter on toast. I hope you find what you are looking for, just try not to try too hard. Make it some what simple and from the heart.

In the superstore, fruits are usually picked out far too soon. Some are rocks, many are bitter. Some of the fresh vegetables are right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
