What is this beast?
A nation?
A person?
A kingdom?
Christians seem to have more then one view on this. I was wondering if any one could show me the meaning of the beast above mentioned.

DANIEL 7:4-8
The lion with eagles’ wings represents Babylon with its swift conquests (statues of winged lions have been recovered from Babylon’s ruins). The bear that ravaged the lion is Medo-Persia. The three ribs in its mouth represent the conquests of three major enemies. The leopard is Greece. Its wings show the swiftness of Alexander the Great’s campaign as he conquered much of the civilized world in four years (334–330 B.C.). The leopard’s four heads are the four divisions of the Greek Empire after Alexander’s death.
The fourth beast points to both Rome and the end times. Many Bible scholars believe that the horns correspond to 10 kings who will reign shortly before God sets up his everlasting Kingdom. These 10 kings had still not come to power at the time of John’s vision recorded in the book of Revelation (Revelation 17:12). The little horn is a future human ruler or the Antichrist (see also 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4). God is illustrating the final end of all worldly kingdoms in contrast to his eternal Kingdom.

The beast is a political system.

7 heads = dominions, continents
10 horns = kings, rulers, leaders

The sea is peoples of the world

Yes Daniel 7:4-8 is describing the political situation that is now and soon will be. Likewise in Rev.13.

If you are talking about the 7th chapter in the book of Daniel:

"And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. The first was like a lion and had an eagle's wings...."

He is talking about nations. This is (I believe) the first reference to the Battle of Armageddon. (Not to be discounted by Ezekel which talks about the events leading up to Armageddon.)

Daniel chapter 7 speaks more about an event. In Revelations reguarding 666 (mark of the beast), this mostly talks about the anti-Christ and what he will do.

I hope this helps. IF you are truely interested in this subject, I would like to suggest a book to you. Jerusalem Countdown by John Hagee. Just a suggestion.

They represent the Anti-christ and the Nations that will bow down to him.
These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.

Daniel 7: 18But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.

19Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;

20And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

21I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

22Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

23Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

24And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

25And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

26But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.

27And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

28Hitherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.

The Bible really does not say anything specific about where the antichrist will come from. Many Bible scholars speculate that he will come from a confederacy of ten nations and/or a reborn Roman empire (Daniel 7:24-25; Revelation 17:7). Others see him as being a Jew since he would have to be in order to claim to be the Messiah. It is all just speculation since the Bible does not specifically say where the antichrist will come from or what race he will be. One day, the antichrist will be revealed. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 tells us how we will recognize the antichrist, "Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
666 The mark of the beast will be an end times "mark" required by the antichrist to buy or sell - and - given only to those who worship the antichrist.

Two mistakes are commonly made in interpreting the warning of John’s Revelation. One is to externalize responsibility. The other is to cast it in the future. The beast is here. His power is already revealing itself. He is already dictating to people whether they may live or die, whether they may feel good or not, whether they may feel alive or not. The beast is the animal nature within you, and it uses the senses and the appetites of that nature to rule over you.

When the appetites of the beast dictate whether you feel good or not, whether you can be happy, joyous, alive or not, whether you can express your true self or not, you are already tattooed with the mark of the beast. The beast is alive, ruling your thoughts and your actions. The dictator has claimed power over the world -- your world.

Standing on the mountaintop is the part of you that is marked with your true identity. The name of your father is written on your forehead. Standing on the mountaintop is the part of you that sings with the voice of heaven. Know who you are. Know your true relationship to your creator.

Recognize your opportunity and your responsibility, no matter what you have done in life, no matter how you have lived your life thus far, no matter how enamored you have been with the gift, causing you to forget the giver.

After Jesus comes back for His children, there will be 7 years of tribulation on Earth and the unsaved will have to go through this torture. There will be 144,000 chosen Christians to remain here to preach to the unsaved about God and that they need to be saved. The unsaved do have a chance to repent and accept Jesus.. The beast, Satan, will demand the remaining people to receive the 666 on their foreheads and if they don't they will be tortured in the streets (the ones who are saved and got saved).. Those who accept the 666 will live forever in Hell with satan....

SYMBOLIC BEASTS

From time immemorial, mankind has observed the characteristics and habits of animals and has applied them in a figurative or symbolic sense to persons, peoples, governments, and organizations. The Bible makes good use of this effective means of illustration. Examples pertaining to the figurative use of the qualities residing in an animal, or suggested by its characteristics, are listed in the accompanying charts.

BEASTS AS SYMBOLS OF GOVERNMENTS

Certain major world powers of history appear directly in the Biblical record, and all of these, as well as other nations, have used animals as symbols of their governments. In Egypt, the serpent figured prominently, the uraeus, the sacred asp, appearing on the headdress of the Pharaohs. However, Egypt was also represented by the bull, as was Assyria. Medo-Persia used the eagle (the shields of the Medes bore the golden eagle; the Persians bore an eagle fixed to the end of a lance). Athens was designated by the owl; Rome, the eagle; Great Britain is designated by the lion; the United States, the eagle. From the most remote times China has been symbolized by the dragon. Well known are the Russian “bear” and the German “two-headed eagle.”

THE WILD BEASTS OF DANIEL'S PROPHECY AND THE REVELATION TO JOHN, THE APOSTLE

That the beasts described in these books represent political kingdoms or governments, exercising rulership and authority, is clearly stated. (Da 7:6, 12, 23; 8:20-22; Re 16:10; 17:3, 9-12) A consideration of the Biblical passages reveals that, while these political ‘wild beasts’ vary in symbolic form, yet all have certain characteristics in common. All are shown as standing in opposition to God’s rule by the Messianic Kingdom over mankind. They are also depicted as in opposition to God’s “holy ones,” his covenant people, first the Jewish nation, then the Christian congregation. Those specifically named (Medo-Persia and Greece) were major world powers, and the great size attributed to the others or the description of their actions indicates that these too were not minor kingdoms. (It may be noted that subordinate kingdoms are symbolized by horns in some cases.) All the beasts are represented as very aggressive, seeking the dominant position over the nations or peoples within the reach of their power.—Compare Da 7:17, 18, 21; 8:9-11, 23, 24; Re 13:4-7, 15; 17:12-14.

Many commentators endeavor to limit the fulfillment of the visions of the beasts in the book of Daniel so that it does not extend beyond the time when Jesus Christ was on the earth, at which time the Roman Empire was the dominant power. The prophecies themselves, however, make plain that they extend beyond that time. The final forms of the beasts are shown as reaching down to the ‘arrival of the definite time for God’s holy ones to take possession of the kingdom’ in “the appointed time of the end.” Then the Messiah destroys such beastly opposition for all time. (Da 7:21-27; 8:19-25; compare also Re 17:13, 14; 19:19, 20.) It may be noted that Christ Jesus expressly foretold that opposition to the Messianic Kingdom would continue into the time of the end, so that his disciples then preaching that Kingdom would be “objects of hatred by all the nations.” (Mt 24:3, 9-14) This obviously does not allow for any nation, particularly world powers, to be excluded from possible identification with the final forms or expressions of the symbolic wild beasts.

Because my time is short, I will only have time to give you part of an article written on '666', the mark of 'The Beast'. If you want more info, e-mail me for it as I wish to confirm your sincerity in learning of such things. Mike

IDENTIFYING THE WILD BEAST AND ITS MARK

DO YOU enjoy solving a mystery? To do so, you look for clues that help you work your way toward the solution. In his inspired Word, God provides the needed clues with regard to the number 666, the name, or mark, of the wild beast of Revelation chapter 13.

In this article, we will look at four main lines of reasoning—vital clues—that will reveal the meaning of the mark of the beast. We will consider (1) how Bible names are sometimes chosen, (2) the identity of the wild beast, (3) what is meant by 666 being “a man’s number,” and (4) the significance of the number 6 and why it is written in triple digits, namely, 600 plus 60 plus 6, or 666.—Revelation 13:18
