I lived in the US for 5 years and Americans were always so sweet about my accent and found it cute, but I don't think it's the same the other way around! I think the fascination for Americans is that it's so different, whereas Brits hear American accents so often on the TV and all the other accents in Europe that it is so commonplace we are not so interested. Most Americans I met hadn't known any British people or watched much British TV etc so it was just something new and fun for them! :)

It's the same all over the world...some accents are quite pleasant whilst some are irritting and annoying. I have found that a lot of American accents are extremely ear grating, but at the same time, others are quite pleasant to hear. Here in the UK I find the really strong Brummie accent incredibly irritating.

It's just down to personal tastes.

I am British and to be honest, most Brits dont. Americans in my opinion care more about their roots than where they are now, Thats why they label themselves, African Americans, Asian American, Italian American etc etc. thats why they take a keen interest. I myself am a Scotsman and found that where ever I go people always want to talk to me because of some ancestor they had.

NO everybody hates the yankee accessory! perhaps some southern ones are ok. yet heavily individuals, do you recognize that Britain is created from distinctive worldwide places? why do you generally assume all British accents sound like Hugh furnish's?
