I am 18, about to enter college. I am in moderately good shape (100 crunches in 2 minutes, 3 miles in 20 minutes, 15 pullups). I have a couple more years to prepare myself physically etc.

I'm of moderate intelligence SAT score 2030/2400, ACT 29

I know that it is extroardinarily difficult and a rediculously low percentage of people can actually get through indoc, but I'd like to at least take a shot at it one day.

If there is anyone out there who has become a recon marine, I'd really appreciate any wisdom you have to offer.

Just know that only certain MOSs can go recon. If I remember correctly, only infrantry, communications, and intelligence can become recon. Keep this in mind when you sign your contract. Don't sign up to be artillery or motor-t or supply and expect go recon. Just infantry (all 0300 fields), comm, or intel.

The most important attributes are not intelligence or physical prowess. Recon similarly to open field snipers must have superb psychological and emotional toughness, extreme patience and cold bloodedness. Also must be very adaptable and improvisational, high threshold of pain and discomfort. You must accept death as a very likely event at any time. Can you kill women and children if they jeopardise your mission or out to kill you?

Indoctrination of any kind is a bad idea - think of all the arabs / pakistanis who are indoctrinated by the saudis to hate the US, I'm sure they need a lot of training too!

If you really want to be a marine, fine, but why not work for peace and understanding, like the marine who went ot work for al jazeera - not that I agree with Al Jazeera but at least he's trying open the lines of communication
