Im looking for a pathway into one of the federal agencies after i get out of the military doing field work and this is an extreemly hard goal to meet. will the airforce be able to actualy help me more then the army or marines? thanks in advance

i do realize that it is an airforce recruiter telling me this so i am skeptical about what he is saying thinking that he may possibly just be looking for a new recruit

The agency he is referring to is the OSI (office of special investigations) it is a special duty assignment, which means that you cannot get into the unit without applying for that job and being selected. Most special duty assignments have a minimum rank requirement of E-4 or E-5 (Senior Airman or Staff Sergeant). This means the minimum amount of time you must spend on active duty is 36 months. If the requirment is Staff Sergeant that time can ncrease to 5+ years (E-4 is an "automatic" promotion E-% is a test based promotion)

Most special duty assignments also have performance report requirements, letter of reccomendations, etc. even then you have no guarantee of acceptance.

Technically this recruiter is not wrong, you will be in high demand with that training, but I don't think he is giving you all the details and telling you just how hard this can be. Ask him directly if he is referring to the OSI and query him on the requirments for that job.

I suspect that you are being fed a line. The Recruiters from the Federal Law Enforcement Agencies don't "go after" ANYBODY. They have about 12 or 13 qualified applicants for each job they have to fill, and several hundred totally unqualified people who fill out paperwork because they don't understand how the system works.

Their job is not to "go after" recruits... their job is to sort through and decide which of the 12 excellent resumes is the one they are going to hire. The hiring process is about 18 months long, or it was when the people I know tried to get in.

If you want to join a Federal Agency, by all means go ask the Federal Agencies what they do or do not look for... not the Air Force Recuiter!!

As a vet (not AF) I would say there is some substance to what your being told. The AF is looked up to as the primo service.

Was he an MP? Did you ask him how he knows that? Sounds like he is telling you what you want to hear.
