Depends on how you look at it...

It's a blessing if you're mature enough to realize that marriage is all about love: providing needs for your spouse and working to make the both of you happy.

It's a "ball and chain" if you expect marriage to revolve around you and your needs only to find that it doesn't work that way. I believe people get divorced because they fail to see that marriage isn't perfect and is always a work in process.

Definitely the ball and chain. If it were a blessing, that 51% of American women who are single would turn into less than a minority. Marriage is useless.

I think it's the reasons why you get married that count. I don't believe in marrying young as you haven't formed opinions on what you are really after yet, after all we all change. You also have to ask yourself if you look at another person when you are with that person? or if that person can share your hopes and dreams? if you answer posatively to the above then I thing marriage should be a blessing.

It depends on what type of relationship that you have with your partner. If you have one of mutual respect and caring, devoid of jealousy and accusations, it can be heavenly. However there are many marriages that are not happy and the reasons are many. I just am very lucky that when my husband and I have issues we both feel the need to work through them and then move on, rather then allow things to build up to the point there is explosions.

To people who want a good and loving marriage....it's a blessing.

To people who don't know what the heck they want....it's a ball & chain.

You get out of it what you put into it....both people.

Assalam o alikum (peace b on u)
marriage is blessing of course, no doubt
it gives u sense of security, and belongingness. u trust each other and make each other comfortable.
marriage is the relation of give and take, if some one gets on the one side, then he/she will say that its ball and chain.
in marriage, partners really have to work out to make this relation successful, instead of expecting other to change, try to change urself as like by ur partner (ofcourse in the limits of shariaat---thats Islam permits). then this relation is blessing

Quran respect this LEGAL relationship i.e. marriage. i m mentioning translation of following verses from Quran, which r translated by 3 different writers (YUSUFALI, PICKTHAL and SHAKIR).

chapter 002. verse 187
YUSUFALI: Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and ye are their garments…….
PICKTHAL: It is made lawful for you to go in unto your wives on the night of the fast. They are raiment for you and ye are raiment for them………….
SHAKIR: It is made lawful to you to go into your wives on the night of the fast; they are an apparel for you and you are an apparel for them…….

chapter 004. verse 019
YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! Ye are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should ye treat them with harshness, that ye may Take away part of the dower ye have given them,-except where they have been guilty of open lewdness; on the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If ye take a dislike to them it may be that ye dislike a thing, and Allah brings about through it a great deal of good.
PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! It is not lawful for you forcibly to inherit the women (of your deceased kinsmen), nor (that) ye should put constraint upon them that ye may take away a part of that which ye have given them, unless they be guilty of flagrant lewdness. But consort with them in kindness, for if ye hate them it may happen that ye hate a thing wherein Allah hath placed much good.
SHAKIR: O you who believe! it is not lawful for you that you should take women as heritage against (their) will, and do not straiten them m order that you may take part of what you have given them, unless they are guilty of manifest indecency, and treat them kindly; then if you hate them, it may be that you dislike a thing while Allah has placed abundant good in it.

jazakallah,
may Allah (God) guide us towards the right path, ameen
