When I got married I didn't have a wedding but now I really want one do you think that I should spend all that money on a wedding or put it towards the dream house that I always wanted.

Dream house. While you're at it, why not start a nice savings account to help your kids either pay for college or for their own weddings?

Because it'd be stupid to have a lavish wedding now. Too late. We all have regrets of one sort or another so just let it go and look to the future: dream house, kids' futures, retirement....

Its def not silly to want that wedding every girl dreams about. But if its a choice betw house or wedding, I would choose the house. A wedding can be done inexpensive..you just have to find the right details and make good plans. A house on the other hand goes along way. You will be living there for years and a wedding last one day. Follow your heart..you'll make the right choice. If you really dream of that wedding go for it. Or you could do both. Have an inexpensive beautiful wedding and a somewhat dream home.

Have both. After all you didn't have a wedding at all. You can have a very nice wedding pretty cheap. You don't have to buy the most expensive things. You can find flowers on sale at different stores among other wedding needs. I am sure there is someone close to you, if not you, that can put flowers together. The biggest expense you would be looking at would be the dress and the cake. Even with those you can find sales. Don't spend the rest of your life wanting your wedding when you CAN have the best of both worlds. Best wishes to you.

Aw! You should definitely have a wedding and not live to regret it.. Although weddings only last one day, the memories are what last forever.. however, if this dream house is what you also really want, i'd say for now, go for the house and postpone the wedding plans.. Look on the brighter side, this way if you are planning on having or do have children, they can enjoy one very memorable and meaningful day as well :)

I too had a small intimate wedding without the bells and whistles. I dearly regret now that we didnt go through the hub-bub of the big wedding. So does my husband.

We are planning our 10th anniversary party to be a kind of re-do of our reception, but remember, you cant recreate the magic of your wedding day. There is just no getting that back.

I would get the house now and later on you can throw a huge party to celebrate an anniversary.

Put the money on the house.

However, you could get some professional shots done of you and your husband in wedding gear.

Such as: buy a wedding gown (the one you would have worn if you had walked down the aisle), rent a tux, get hair and make up done, get professional pictures done, go to a hotel (get the honeymoon suite) and have a private renewal of vows...then pretend it's your wedding night. Don't forget room service to keep your energy up! Cost $2000 (maybe)

I wouldnt do the HUGE wedding maybe just close friends and family for a renewal of the vows then a nice reception afterwards but set a small budget and put the rest towards that house.

It is not dumb to want a wedding. Keep in mind though, that as soon as you say the word 'wedding' the price for services gets notched up. Maybe you could plan a simple but sincere celebration of your marriage and provide feast and drink for your friends and family, rather than lose all that money to the unnecessary costs and price hikes of a lavish ceremony.

Renewal ceremonies are becoming more common, I think it's nice to do that on a special anniversary so that you can do the big wedding you want! You don't have to break the bank to do it either, you could use just a percentage of the money you have saved up.

I didnt have a wedding either, I just went to the recorders office. I kinda regret it too. So have a reception, wear your dress (if you still fit into it, I dont) but nothing huge. You'll have the pictures, and memories, but still save for your dream house.
