I filed my taxes and the irs accepted them on 1/15, said would take 8-15 days. I waited then checked irs.gov for 'where's my refund?' and it said that it would be direct deposited on 1/26. so i waited, checked again on 1/26 said same thing, so i figured w/ the weekend it wouldn't hit my bank til 1/30 or 1/31. checked again at 10.15pm on 1/30 said was direct deposit on 1/26........then checked again at 4.45am on 1/31 and all of a sudden it is now 'a delay in processing my refund'. I called them and they said that they just needed more time. it would be 2-8 more weeks. so how can they do that? deposit it then take it back and why would they?

If the money hit your bank account then they can't take it back. Since the money was never really deposited in your account then there isn't a problem. The IRS has been struggling with their computer system the last few weeks because of the change in the forms. Congress passed a bunch of extensions on certain tax breaks that aren't reflected for in the forms packet that the IRS had already printed and sent out. The IRS is taking steps to make sure that all of these deductions are accounted for correctly on their machines before the e-filed returns can be processed correctly. Good luck getting your refund.

I am too having this same problem. The IRS website showed that my refund was direct deposited on 01/26, but it never showed up in my account. Now the website shows that there is a delay and gave me a reference # 1121. I have called several times and they finally told me that it will be an additional 2 weeks. I have filed the same way with the same dependents for the past 3 years. Good Luck to us all in getting our refunds quickly.

Check with your bank. It's possible that they rejected it for some reason. Most commonly that's because either the name on your tax return didn't match the name on the account or the routing or account number was wrong. If that happens, most likely the status will change to "direct deposit rejected" or something like that. When that happens, your return goes into the queue for a paper check.

it is possible it is being investigated,if thats the case then the return is frozen until they can verify questionable info on your tax return. More likely though. there is an internal problem with the irs computers or software. Dont panic! Contact your local taxpayer advocate and they will be able to tell you if you are under investigation

That's the reason the IRS should be done away with. Most likely they didn't review your tax return like they had scheduled or their was a mistake on your tax return . Either way they are not going to get in a hurry to send your return.

I really wish I could answer your question, but I can't.

I can give you some of my previous experience dealing with the IRS, aka Government.

When you owe the Government, they will take it immediately.

When the Government owes you, it could possibly take forever.
