When you pet her, she puts her butt up in the air... it's really scary, too. What does it mean?

Haha, my cats do that too. Well if you're petting them right by their tails, thats pretty much a natural reaction (why, I dont know). Another thing is that they might be in heat (but thats usually if theyre just walking with their butt up in the air all the time). I also read somewhere that cats have a tendency (when around other cats) to lick each other's butts as a sign of effection, and so if your cat loves you, he or she will raise its butt in the air as an "invitation" to you to lick their butt. Most logical humans will... "deny" that though

Has she been spayed? When a female cat is ready to mate, the male will bit the scruff of the back of her neck and the female will raise her hind end to present herself to the male. Your cat may be responding to your petting in this manner, especially if she's going into heat or if she's been bred in the past.

A breeder once told me that cats have scent glands in their anus.
And to be scratched or petted on their back is their show of appreciation, that is why they enjoy rubbing up against you and by pushing their bottoms up so that you (as an animal) could get a better whiff, and recognise them next tiime around.
She is just appreciating you and all cats do this. Its nothing abnormal. At least the cat shows that it is comfi with you.

I'm curious to see the answers because my cat is kind of wrapping himself around my neck like a scarf. I used to think cats like to feel the heartbeat (like on the neck) but I'm looking forwards to know what's with cat and human faces.

does your cat make annoying meowing sounds? my cat does that with her butt when she is in heat or really loving the attention

My cat does that too, so do many cats. I think they just like their butt scratched, lol. Maybe she doesn't like her head touched.

My cat's name (Lucy Ball, so much like yours!) does that as well. She isn't fixed so that could be why.

my female cat also does that I read on a website that when thier bum sticks up or something it might be a sign that she is in heat that is if you have not desexed her yet.

has she been spayed ??? if she has it probably tickles her or hits a 'magic' spot that makes her hump up (dogs do the same thing) if she hasn't been spayed, then maybe she's in heat...

my male and female cats do the same thing, its just showing pleasure, and that she is happy and likes u :)
