Yes, but it is generally more expensive. The one I was looking at was a Sony for around $2500, but they come a little cheaper. The best bet is to buy a digital one, they are smaller, and high def. On top of the money it costs, you will need to buy a screen for the best viewing, price depends on size. On top of that, for best results, you will probably want to have somone install it for you, I have seen some that were installed by the person who bought it, and the picture is almost always off center, which means part of it is on the wall, or the picture is not using the whole screen. If you are not interested in high def, than you might be able to find one of the old kind, it has three lights, and is huge. I don't know of any stores that still carry them, you can try ebay.

YES you can.
I did it for way less than a TV, and now I have a 106" TV/movie theater/game room all in my living room. My wife like it more than a TV since it disappears when not in use (litteraly).
You just need to plan it.. It is NOT more expensive, depending on what you already have.
You can get a very good 720p projector for under 1400$ (a Sanyo PLV-Z5 for example) , compare the price of any TV at 80" diagonal or more (3000$+).
The things you do need to know about is:
- is you wall is good enough or is a screen required?
- do you have a receiver for audio and/or video switching?
- how dark is your room, or how dark can you make it?
- how easy would your wiring be?
Then again.. even if you buy a receiver, speakers and a screen you'll be under 2500$.
for the opponents or PJ's as TVs: I have yet to meet anyone that came to my house (daytime or nightime) and did not enjoy our BIG TV. And we will definitively enjoy it this sunday.

Yes, you will need(low end budget):
projector (~$1000 to $2k)
receiver(~$300 to $1000)
speakers(~$1000)
cables (speaker, interconnect)
screen or wall ($0 -$1000) Plenty of DIY options here.

yeah, but theyre really expensive, and you have to make sure to get one that is really bright. otherwise, daytime TV watching is impossible. look for the highest lumen/candela count you can (theyre brightness measures). the only other thing you need is a screen or a white wall
