You don't know, so you just have to follow your instincts. If you feel like you have chemistry with somebody, chances are that person probably gets pretty jittery around you, too. Asking somebody can be a big risk, but it's worth it, because if they like you it's cool, and if they don't, then you don't have to waste your time liking somebody when you don't know if that person likes you back.

It all depends on their age and sex. It changes with age.
Looking at you when you're not looking is a clue. Unnecessary questions are another. Young girls giggle. Young boys show off stupidly an then watch to see your reaction.

Act really clumsy in front of them, trip or drop something, and laugh and then see how they act. If they get all blushy then they like you.

if the girl looks at you intently she likes you. if she laughs when you do, she likes you. if her body language mimics yours, she likes you. if she answers your questions in an open ended way so you can continue the conversation, she likes you.
