Thomas was the scientist. He was skeptical. He demanded evidence. Christianity, therefore, does not portray him favorably.

Thomas the Apostle, is also known as Thomas the Doubter because he would not believe the other apostles’ accounts of their encounters with the risen Christ until he had seen for himself. Christ did not rebuke Thomas for his questions and skepticism, but provided Thomas with the confirmation he needed and charged him to carry the gospel to others.

Abraham was quite specific about his heir. God reassured him.
Moses was quite vocal about his abilities. God reassured him.
The Israelites stewed and grumbled. God plagued them.
You have Jeremiah. The 12 spies, Peter, Judas, Thomas, the disciples - in matthew 28 it reads some still doubted as Jesus ascended into heaven.

Eleven frightened disciples followed Jesus faithfully until… the cross. Could there be a Kingdom if the king was dead? Could there be miracles with the miracle worker murdered? Could you offer sight to the blind, healing to the sick or hope for the poor if the one who made the promises… ceased to exist?
Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary come running from the tomb to claim they saw Him… alive!
“No way!” you say. “I heard his final words and saw the spear thrust into his body. I saw Jesus die! I won’t believe anything unless I see the nail wounds and place my hand into the wound on his side!”
Suddenly Jesus is standing there among us! “Peace be with you,” he said. As he spoke, he held out his hands and we saw his wounded side. Most of us were filled with joy when we saw our Lord but not you. Then Jesus walks over and says to you: “Thomas, put your finger here in my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!” (from John 20:20-27)

The Bible is full of stories about doubters.
Abraham's wife, Sarah, laughed when God told her she'd get pregnant. God didn't appreciate it too much. Then she denied it. She did end up getting pregnant, and Isaac was born.
Moses doubted he would get anywhere with Pharoah in Egypt. God had to encourage him to get him to go.
Jonah doubted God would have mercy on Nineveh. God spared the city anyway, and Jonah actually got mad.
And of course, there is the famous story of doubting Thomas.
Just to name a few.
