There's many reasons but I just enjoy racing, especially Nascar because it originated in the south which is where I was born and raised. Like watching football or any other sport, you get behind a team or certain players, nascar is no different. Being at a race is something else also, I've been to the Talladega and Bristol tracks so far, and hope to add a couple of other tracks to that this season.
Plus, it's a clean sport where the drivers don't go into the stands to get into a fight with someone. The garbage some football and basketball players get away with and still be on the team would never happen in nascar. These drivers and crew members have to keep their nose clean if they want to keep a job. If Terrel Owens was a race driver, he'd never land a job in nascar because of his attitude.

The drama of it all is what makes it so different and exciting from other forms of sport. I think people have always been drawn passionately to competitions where the participant has a real danger of very serious injury or even death. You can go back to the days of gladiators and chariot racing for some examples (although most gladiators didn't have a choice in the matter). Bull fighting is a better, more current comparison. But it is also much about the personalities and rivalries of the different drivers. With all the exposure they get and all the new shows about their daily lives you feel like you know them on much more personal level than most "famous" sports figures or celebrities. Then when you add in the different strategies and unforeseen events that take place during a race you get something that's extremely exciting. It's a bit of a crap shoot on any given Sunday (or Saturday night) with no idea of who will crash, win, have a lug nut wedge between the brake caliper or possibly die. There are not many sports like that out there. Plus it is right up there with apple pie and baseball, as far as icons of American culture.

To tell you the truth...I didn't get in to NASCAR until about 3 years ago (and i'm still kicking myself for not getting into the sport earlier). The first NASCAR race I ever saw was at a friends house while he was having a sunday NASCAR kinda party thing. Watching that race got me so freakin excited...I was yelling at the TV and yelling for my favorite driver (at that time). After that 500th lap I was hooked. Every sunday you could find me glued to the TV. Then a couple months later I actually went to my first ever race in Bristol. Wow...I can't even put that into words. It was so exciting...I sat so close to the fence that I could feel the wind from the cars and when the announcer guy said "GENTLMEN START YOUR ENGINES" that by far had to be the best feeling i've ever had. Ever since then I have been a die hard NASCAR fan...you couldn't tear me away from NASCAR now...

Nascar... well lets see.. While many people look at the sport as guys running around in circles, its so much more. I love Nascar because of the love/hate that all the fans have for their drivers... There is nothing better than when Gordon wins, and all the JR fans boo and get all upset with that. So I have to say that the rivalry's that happen during the season, and carry over from past seasons gives it a "soap opera" like drama. Just like Tony, and Carl, thats still going on this off season! How awesome is that!
Next... the season last so long, with 36 races, and a few off weekends, its on the TV about 3/4 of the year, 1 time a week, and I think that is what keeps it fresh, not to mention that sunday afternoon is a great time for many people to watch the sport, keeping the popularity up.
Next... Every track is different and requires different skills, and setups... I find the setups and how they play around with the setups very interesting. Every team is doing something different on every single pit stop, all while changing the tires, and filling it with gas!
Next... Since every track is different the way you treat your car is always different. If you are racing at Daytona you have to keep your car as nice as possible... then if you go to Bristol you beat it up, and if you go to Martinsville you give yourself some extra padding so you can run into people!
Finally... what is better than 43 cars with 800horsepower weighing 3400lbs racing around a track as fast as possible... You know there are going to be problems resulting in crashes, and you always hope your guy can make it through it, so you always hold your breath when you hear "Cautions out."
I think that a lot of it has to do with passion... If you dont really have an interest in the sport, there is no way to convince someone to watch it, and enjoy it. I have been a Nascar fan since I was a freshman in high school... about 9-10 years ago... and ever year my passion gets stronger and stronger... Its something that you have to like somewhat to start with, but it really grows on you the more you watch it...

I LOVE NASCAR!!! My son is a Raiders fan and all the family says he bleeds silver & black, well, mom bleeds oil & fuel!!! I was born into a racing family, my dad raced cars, mostly figure-8, some stock, my brother raced motorcycles, I ran destuction derby and a stock car a few times. The sounds of the motors, the smell of the garage, the FEEL of the speed, man, there are no words to describe it, none, you have to experiance it, the rumble that makes the ground move...WOW! NASCAR is like heaven on earth to me. I worked for 9 years at a shop and can't come close to remembering all the motors we built and trannys we rebuilt, those truly were the days! Gotta' have FAST, it's a rush every time! NASCAR does it for me, now that I'm an ole' lady! I can watch it and all over again, here comes that rush, from the green flag to victory lane!!! It's still there. I DO LOVE NASCAR!!!

Oh my God where do I start?..well.......I love speed. I love the roar of the engine and the excitement of of getting through the field. The rush of trying to get the fastest pit times and the race for the pole. Qualify well and you will lead the field. Oh and did I mention the neck and neck battles to the finish. I love clean racing. Even when I'm racing on my PlayStation, I will only pass cleanly. If I should bump someone, I'll always apologize. On the other hand, just as the real drivers of NASCAR fight to get to the front, so will I.
As your question appears to be standing on neutral ground, so will I. Because, for me racing safely is the ultimate challenge. I cheer for the fire and flames. Also, as of late, I cheer for Juan Montoya. For safety, I cheer for all drivers. That all 43 drivers make it across the finish line.....alive.
So for all of drivers on the PlayStation and all the drivers to whom we race to out couches every weekend to see. For all the people who display different forms of racing. From ARCA to NASCAR. F1 to Indy. No matter if your driving a stock car or pick up truck, modified or motorcycle..........say this qoute everyday.....
"Race for the checkered,.......live for the green."

It is racing and i am a huge race fan of any type, why people dislike nascar cause they dont know anything about it, yeah they go in a circle at high speeds, but there is so many little things that can go wrong, and that is what makes it interesting to watch, it goes the same for dirt track racing
