Make sure you are filling up with healthy things from all four food groups, so you won't be as tempted to fill up on junk. If you find yourself craving junk foods, try a healthier choice (steak instead of burgers, milk instead of ice cream, sweet fruits instead of candy). Foods with lots of fibre tend to stick with you longer, so you feel hungry less often. Eat slowly at mealtimes and just eat until you are no longer hungry. Many people continue past this point, eating until they are so full they can't eat another bite. Don't be too restrictive, because you'll just end up feeling bad about yourself. And remember, building muscle requires a lot of nutrients, so junk food won't just build fat, it also doesn't have the nutrients you need to reach your goal. As for self esteem, we all have features we aren't happy with. Focus on the things you like about yourself, and make sure you consider your internal qualities as well. People may be drawn towards attractive people initially, but its the people who are attractive on the inside who they want to stay near. Fourteen is a difficult time for anyone's self esteem, and I've never met anyone who claims to not have felt incredible awkward during the early teen years, so try to relax. The less you worry the better you'll feel. You'll feel more confident as well, which other people will notice. So don't compare yourself to other people too much. Most of them are more messed up than you think! =)

140 lbs is pretty light if you're a dude. I'm your height, and 21 years old, and 150 lbs, and I'm trying to gain weight. I'm sure our weights are "normal" for our height, but I find that I just look too bony. Maybe it's because I have a lot of my weight in my legs from cycling. When I was your age, I thought the exact same way you are thinking about the six-pack . . . I would look at my stomach and see that it wasn't completely flat and think that was the cause of all my problems. Trust me, it's not as impressive as you think it is. And losing the weight is not your problem . . . losing FAT is the problem. That is best accomplished by exercise. (I should say that it is not appropriate for women to have six-packs . . . lowering the body fat levels to the point where a six-pack will show can cause menstrual problems and also cause the breasts to shrink, as the breasts are made of fat. On top of simply being unattractive, six-packs on women creep me out. Just having a mostly-flat stomach is plenty good enough.) But exercise makes you need to eat more. If you do exercise without eating enough, your body fat levels will rise because your body will digest your muscles to power the rest of it. So . . . eat, exercise, and rest. And don't worry about how you look. You will turn out just fine. I want you to say this to yourself until it sticks: "I like myself no matter what anyone else thinks of me." Good night!

First, let me say that you need to keep your self-esteem separate from your weight! Don't let the scale dictate how great you are.

Now, as far as losing weight, make a fist. That's the size of your stomach when it's not all stretched out. Make your food portions that size. When you catch yourself sighing during a meal, that means you're only 1-2 bites away from being full (not stuffed, full).

Then, leave at least one bite on your plate at every meal. Don't belong to the "clean plate club."

Finally, eat only when you're hungry, and only what you crave. If you crave chocolate, eat chocolate. (If you don't eat what you crave, you're gonna wind up chasing a taste until you're bathing in chocolate.)

Don't eat when you're famished. Instead, drink a little juice or milk first and give it a few minutes to diminish your appetite.

Good luck!

Lay off carbohydrates (breads and grains), eat a lot of meat for protein. Stay out of fast food places, for a month, and drink water and not soda beverages.
