This is very simple. You have to buy the FULL version of Vista. After you have backed up any files that you want to save, put the disk into you DVD drive. Then shut down. Restart the computer and either a menu will pop up or you will have to press F12 for the setup menu. When it comes up with options, you want to delete the partion, and make a brand new one using the newly un partioned space. Then select it and chose to format the hard drive using the NTFS formatting. Whether you choose the Quick or the Long version, it doesn't matter a whole lot, but the long way will ensure the hard drive is completely clean. Wait for it to finish that process. Then from here i'm not completely sure as i have never installed Vista, but i have Installed XP many many times. It will probably do something like "coping the files" If it is at all like XP then then it should be self explanatory from there.

You are asking how to make a clean install of Vista, yet want to have both Vista and XP on the hard drive? It doesn't sound like you are knowledgeable enough to attempt this.

If you want Vista badly enough, I suggest you first backup or copy any files you created and want to keep onto an external storage device.

Format the HD, Install Vista.

All you can do is reformat the hard drive and before installing XP again just put Vista in and let it run. However on some computers you have the right amount of ram to hold vista. If you need the steps E-mail me. Rescue4203@yahoo.com and I'll list them to you on how to format the hard drive. Just send me your computer information.

Place the Vista DVD in the the DVD drive and re start your computer. After it re starts you will see a notice "Press any key to boot from CD" Press any key and the setup will walk you through the rest. You need to have a full version of Vista and not an upgrade Version.
