About 2 weeks ago I happened to be rubbing at my back...about where my bra starp goes. I noticed a lump off to the left side of my spine. It has not went away. It is just to the left of my spine..right next to it. It is bigger than a marble, smaller than a superball and soft. It is tender and sore if too much pressure is applied to it, or if I curve my back and lean against something. Otherwise, I guess it doesn't hurt. I have had back pain for so many years, I am used to it. I don't know how long this has been there either..I just happened to notice it about 2 weeks ago, but I do not normally feel that part of my back, so it could have been there longer. I don't have insurance and my family is currantly on a very tight budget. Does anyone know what this might be? Should I see a chiropractor? There is a clinic here for uninsured people...should I go there and see a physician instead? Again..money is tight and I can't afford to just go here and there for tons of tests.

I am 35..healthy other than back problems...no other illnesses or symptoms other than sometimes I get tingling in my fingers and hands just from having my elbows bent( such as while typing at the computer) which I have assumed is from back issues.

It is deeper than a boil...more internal and not so superficial.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Why not put your mind at ease by having a professional look at it now. Sure use the clinic--at least that way you'll have a professional's opinion and a better understanding of what you need to do, if anything, about it.
Be pro-active. It'll save your health in the long run.

Naturally it is best that you seek the advice of a physician if at all possible. The lump that you are referring to sounds to me like a boil or carbuncle which is larger than a boil. These are basically sacs of pus that need to be drained and further have the sac membrane removed to prevent it from refilling. These are usually the result of poor dietary considerations or bacterial infection associated with infectious skin disorders. Only a doctor will be able to treat it properly as you might need antibiotics as well. If you have a clinic available to you then I recommend that you make an appointment to have it looked at.

I would have it checked out by a doctor, not a chiropractor. And I understand being on a tight budget (believe me) maybe there is a clinic in your area that is either free or works on a sliding scale by income. Good Luck.

Sounds like a lipoma. A fatty tumor. Completely benign and harmless, I have several myself. Of course, don't take my word for it, you need to have somebody look at it. The doctor will usually allow you to be billed if you discuss it before you go in.

Sounds like a cyst. I've had several lumps like you described come up in my breast. I was freaked out at first until the Dr. told me that malignant lumps are usually hard & painless. Still should get it checked out, though.
