It seems that if something, anything isnt in the bible, a book written by humans, that it's not true. That if something contradicts the stories in the book, they must not be true. Even though the authors had less knowledge of the world than we do today.

Is it not important to understand the world? Or does god was his followers to be dumb and lazy so they won't figure him out. Doesn't say much about god then, if he is scared that his creations would get too smart.

it is human nature to pick and choose what to believe. Kind of like what sort of decorations you want in your house. The Catholic teachings go something like this: the bible is divinely inspired, but written through imperfect men, and that about sums it up, although I do believe there are some things that cannot be fully explained, and are truly worthy of our wonder and awe.

You do not have to be concerned, for you will never find evolution in the Word of God. There are a lot of things that are not written in the Word of God, but that does not mean that God has no part in them. But I can assure you that God has no part in evolution. You might also try and remember that the authors of the Bible, had far more knowledge than what we have today; even though they may of had knowledge of different things. Just because they did not live in the days that we live in today, does not mean that they did not have any knowledge of the world. You might also remember that they wrote the Bible as they were inspired by the Spirit of God. Half of the knowledge that the people of the world have today, is what has brought it to the disastrous state that it is in today. Mainly, because people have not used the knowledge that the Lord God has given to them, in the right and sensible way that He intended for them to do so. It may be important to know the ways of the world, but to try and understand it, is beyond our capibility. The followers of God were by no means dumb and lazy. And if you are a follower of God, you will not be dumb and lazy either. For God expects a person to put forth the effort that they are able to, and He will give them the additional strength that they need. I would think twice before I called God scared. For He is not scared of anything or anyone; and He is not at all worried about his creations getting too smart. When we start overstepping the line, He will put a stop to it. You can count on it. He is in full control of everything. Including you and me.

It's not in the Bible and there is a reason why: There is no earthy molecular mechanism, even in an open thermodynamic system, to create order from disorder. The most organized things you get are dissipative structures, like tornadoes. As one of the inventors of laboratory "directed evolution", I can tell you that nothing has been evolved in a test tube that is not already in nature's diversity. Gene shuffling, which mimics mutation and crossover events, yields nothing new - even at the level of enzyme evolution. Organismal evolution is far more challenging, and selection is not a mechanism. Just for fun, you might want to look and see if there is any structure in the genetic code that is linked to the physicochemical properties of the amino acids. There is, and it was discovered by Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). That did not come from the simple "RNA World" of the secularists. It is likely another signature from God. There are so many such signatures, it is sometimes blinding.

"Is it not important to understand the world?"

How important is it? Do we really need to know how gravity works, or will we survive just knowing that if we jump, we fall. Do we need to know how the world was created or should it be good enough knowing we are alive to enjoy its mysteries?

I'm not a 'believer' and I don't understand it. But I can't figure out why people think it's so wrong for others to have faith in something... more.

Every day we see violence in our mysterious world because people of belief won't tolerate people of different beliefs. Is the vocal atheists need to tear apart the beliefs of others any different?

If we can actually prove evolution, it would still not disprove the existance of a higher being, bible or no.

If Creation was in the science books would you believe it? It is a sin to teach the schoolkids that evolution is factual with all the phony ape-men someone concocted with Paraguay pig parts and chimp skulls and an ever adjusting basic theory. Science proves by the integrated complexity of things there HAD to be a designer. This is taking secular humanism too far absolutely distorting the truth.

Yeah, If it were in the Bible, it would be true.

The only reason that people actually believe the impossible theory of evolution, is because the assume that life began naturally, and not by a Creator. That is the entire reason to evolution. There is nothing scientific about it.

So it all comes down to faith. Faith in the Bible, or faith in a man who believed that we was descended from an ape.

Ya lost me...

To the initial question in the headline... If it was in the bible, well goodie. Though there is no way they could have known about it to include it. The book includes plenty of real life stuff...people, animals, rain...and LOTS of crazy ideas. The real life stuff that is clearly real...well fine...but it doesn't exactly impact anything...and the crazy stuff is just nutso fantasy.

Well, back then when there was a stronger belief in God, you didn't need to understand the world. Only God truly understands this universe, and if you're only on the Earth for some 80, maybe 90, sometimes even longer, and you have to spend eternity in either a good or bad place, 80 is infinitesimally small compared to eternity in heaven or Hell.

rule number one about asking hypothetical questions

1) always seem unbiased. if you say that the Bible is just another book, you're getting negative feedback right away.

and you don't seem too bright yourself. God made us with intelligence in the first place, as He made us "in His own likenness". So we were given God's traits, and gained others when Adam/Eve sinned.

Hey Karen - gravity is "only a theory" too. Why don't you see whether it works and get back to us on whether you believe in it. If you survive the fall I may stop believing in evolution.
