First, try Advantage rather than Frontline. Frontline is good, but in the past year...it seems that fleas have built up an immunity to it. Just be sure not to use the Advantage until at least 2-3 weeks have passed SINCE you used Frontline.

Then...go to the HARDWARE store and purchase indoor bug spray. Be sure it's A) safe for pets, and B) FOR fleas. It will cost you around $15. The stuff they have there is cheaper, AND you get a much larger container with better results than the stuff you get at the vet's or pet store.

Spray one week, wait 2 weeks, and spray again because nothing kills flea EGGS. They hatch and you need to kill THAT bunch before they breed. Be sure when you spray, to hit the furniture...under couch cushions and under door mats and throw rugs etc...Then you should be okay. Good luck!

I just had to deal with this - I have 2 outdoor/ indoor dogs that picked them up from a friend's house. Firstly, I would not use Advantage - that's what I was using but I found out that it only kills adult fleas. Frontline Plus is better because it also kills eggs. Make sure that you don't bath them 3 days before and after giving them the topical treatment - the medication is distributed through the oils in the skin and when you bathe them, it strips the oils. The best way to get rid of fleas in your home is to keep it as clean as possible. Wash pet bedding in warm soapy water. Also vacuum carpet, couches, etc. every day. Vacuuming is your best friend, as it gets rid of the eggs and larvae. (10% of the fleas are on your pets, the other 90% are in your house.)

Last year there were a lot of fleas around and this year was even worse. Frontline had worked for my dog up until this year. We had to bomb the house for fleas and switch to a different product. It's called Revolution and it works on fleas & ticks and prevents heartworm, so it might not be appropriate for a cat. Your vet can sell you something.

If this is applicable, you might need to treat your yard. I got some stuff called Multipurpose Garden and Pet Dust from Ace Hardware. The bag said you could put it directly on the dog, so I figured it would be safe for the yard where he hangs out during the day.

After treating the yard, bombing the house and waiting almost two weeks, we finally got rid of the fleas. What a relief! We were all happier, especially the dog.

Good luck, it's going to take a lot of work.

Advantage is so much better than Frontline. If you use Advantage the chemical compound in the liquid basically causes lock jaw in the flea, this way they can't bite. Eventually every flea will come in contact with the treated cat and they will fall victim to Advantage. The next thing you need to do is purchase "lice spray" you can spray it on the carpet, beds and furniture and it will kill the eggs. Third you need to vacuum every day. The eggs hatch and this creates new fleas. If you happen to wind up with them in your hair, use baby shampoo, this kills fleas also. Hope I helped....

Oh boy- the eternal flea problem!

Fleas are an aggressive pest. The only way to deal with them is to get aggressive right back.

Wash everything that is washable in hot water- including the curtains. Sprinkle the carpet and furniture with Borax or with a powder designed to kill fleas and flea eggs, let sit for 20 minutes or more, then vacuum. You may even want to go so far as to shampoo your carpets and furniture.

And keep vacuuming every day for at least two weeks: That's about how long it takes a flea to mature from newly-hatched to egg-laying adult.

You may even want to treat your yard and crawlspace for fleas, in case some are hiding there.

Good luck!

I hate to discourage you, but the City of Milwaukee condemned one house and tore it down, because it had so many fleas. They were spreading to neighbors' homes.

You could try an insect bomb, but you will have to leave the house for 6-8 hours. If that doesn't work, you should call a professional exterminator. Good Luck.

I got them bad one year and could not get rid of them because they lay the eggs in your carpet and furnature. I used about 250 dollars in de fleaing insecticides to no avail. I end up boiling water on my stove and steam cleaning the carpet and furniture with boiling water. COOKed the damn things. Have not had any since. rent a machine for this.
