Rules of war, the US will never be able to fight and win a war again. It will have to be a war on US soil that makes US citizens agree to use anything possible to actually win a war again.

Willis, I don't know any American who wants our country to fail, lose or look bad. The problem at this point is that we are in such a bad situation, there is NO good solution. No one has been able to define what "win" would mean. There is a civil war in Iraq. So if we "won" would we support the Sunnis? The Kurds? The Shia? Would we have to kill all the Iraqis to "win"? I mean, no one knows what this means when you try to apply it to the current situation as it exists right now in Iraq.

It would be as if you were stuck in quicksand and trying to get out, and someone was standing on safe ground saying, "No, stay in there. You don't want to LOSE." Would that make any sense?

I agree with you that since we destroyed the infrastructure, it would be the noble thing to help rebuild. Actually, I thought that's what we were supposedly doing all along, but apparently the contractors were just war profiteers. What about if we withdrew the soldiers to the borders and then spent money on rebuilding the country and let the Iraqis themselves have the construction jobs? Wouldn't that be a noble thing to do?

Yes, it would be a noble thing, but there's no quick and painless solution to the quagmire we've gotten into in Iraq. The only way to stop the Sunnis and the Shiites from killing each other is to find out who was supposed to be the correct successor to Muhammad. This is impossible. They have now spent almost 1400 years arguing and killing each other over this controversy. We could always just let them keep killing each until they decide they've spilled enough blood. The ACLU would claim we've violated their rights. The bleeding heart liberals and Hanoi Jane would be proud that we once again cut and ran when things got too tough. The terrorists would know that America will always cut and run when things get too tough. The terrorists hate America because we are a free secular society and they have the agenda of all women wearing burkas or be beaten into submission and killing all who don't believe because they are infidels. There is no easy quick end to this mess.

War! War! War! Who wants war? I sure don't. Maybe it's time the world grew up and stopped the killing when a point was to be made. Certain people have always fought and shed blood and until other methods of sanctioning are made - they will continue to fight.
We got into this mess not out of any noble cause - that was the smoke screen -it was for OIL! Make them like us so that it would be easier to get at something they have which we need - OIL! Look up PNAC on the Internet. Project for the New American Century. It was planned a long time ago and unless we get out now and get our oil or an alternative elsewhere - all hell is going to break loose and it won't be pretty.

Well then after the nukes landed the people of the middle east could form OGEC the Organization of Glass Exporting Countries. This war has been going on for almost 4,000 years and it will not end any time soon. In order to win you would have to inahilate the entire population. Not that all are evil, but if you leave one terrorist alive he will win converts from some of the rest of the survivors. Perhaps we could withdraw the troops and send a large number of our nations Liberal Politicians and voters over there to teach them how to live in peace and harmony. They could come back only when they have acheived this.

THERE is no such thing as "winning" in Iraq. Terrorism is an idea you cant kill an idea. Also there are thousands of those terrorist out there and there is no way on God's green earth that all of them are going to be found and killed. Besides there are terrorist outside Iraq that have connections with the ones in Iraq. They are all over the place.

No one has any definite plans for Iraq no one knows how to stop the fighting there. If we go or stay there is just going to be more bloodshed. The terrorist dont care they will willingly die because in their religion its an honorable thing to do. Its not hurting their cause its only helping it. Also is anyone forgetting the thousands of civilans that are dying over there?

This war isnt going anywhere any time soon The American government can send more troops if they want to but its only hurting the Americans and pleasing the terrorist. They want more of us to go over there so they can kill more of us.

Since we don't know "what it took" to win in Iraq, it's hard to say.

If it took the genocide of millions of people, then no, that would not be noble.

There is no way the US can win this. It was a mess from the start. If the only way we can give people democracy is by killing them and destroying their country, it is obviously self-defeating.

That's one of the best questions I've seen in a long time. Wouldn't that be awesome if our government would actually support or troops and their mission 100%. But I believe there is a certain faction (libs) in our country who do not want us to win only because it would make Bush look good. That is so sad!
