My car lease is up soon and i really want to get a mini cooper because i adore them but everyone keeps telling me that they're so unsafe and terrible cars. Part of me doesn't want to believe them just because there adorable but I'm curious as to how safe or unsafe they really are. Anybody know??

Depends on the version............ if it's the newer BMW thing, it should be fine.......... if it's the older original version, you may be pushing you're luck a bit, though as they have a huge enthusiast following (and the Cooper was originally intended as a homologated race car, as well as a nippy road car).......... then most MINI specialists such as http://www.minisport.com have racing spec additional safety equipment such as rollcages available for it.

I had one over twenty years ago in England. Yes, the odds of walking away from a minor accident in a glorified go cart is pretty slim. It's a tin can. The more metal you have around you (a bigger car) the better. They are ideal for the small towns and villages in England were parking spaces are rare, and very small. Also in town speeds are low. Another thing to consider, if you need something fixed on an "imported" car, it's going to cost allot more, you might end up having to take it to the dealership (ouch), though my mini at the time was pretty reliable. Define "unsafe." There's no difference between a mini cooper and a Volvo if I drive them into a wall at 65 mph....Probably going to get serious hurt/die either way.... Just depends on your driving habits and if you drive defensively or not

well based on the size of it and the low center of gravity it has ,it can be unsafe,if you got hit by a larger vehicle it would hurt you if you was driving it,you have to remember the test they do are in a controlled environment, and they don't hit them with a big Chevy suburban or anything,so you would get hurt, anyone who thinks they could total one of these and walk away from it is living in a dream world,it a small box with a set of wheels that wont hold up in a bad accident at all,id hate to be in one to find out,a larger vehicle would climb over it in a bad accident, and that is scary ,if you think about it, i have to agree their nice looking cars though ,and probably a safe as any other small car, good luck i hope this help,s.
