Sometimes they flash the ECU to extract more power and performance in the car. Other chips are piggy back chips for the ECU.

No such thing as a chip to "make it run better." Given that you have a 350z the factory ECU is already tuned, you need not purchase anything. However, if you are going to be installing performance mods (Headers, Exhaust, Intake, Forced Induction) you will need a piggyback computer (E-Manage, VAFC, SAFC, Boost Controller, etc..) to manage your AFR, Boost Levels, EGT, etc. These engine management systems are not plug and play models, your car needs to be put on a dyno and your engine management computer needs to be tuned to get the most out of it. At $600-$1000+ a piece, you better make it worth your while.

Unless you are well-versed in wiring diagrams for aftermarket piggyback computers and comfortable with splicing wires to/from the ECU and fuse box, I highly suggest you get a professional installer to do this job (it's going to cost you on top of what you already paid for the unit).

as the guy before me said, there is no magic chip to make your car faster, more fuel efficient etc. If you want to try and be among the 1000's of dumb people who buy these fake chips, just do a simple search on ebay and for about $30 you can get something that does nothing and may damage your car even.

They call it a ECU. It's a performance chip so that you may upgrade your engines ability. You could also hook your engine up to a computer and max out the RPM's. But that's another topic!

Potatoe chips are as good as any. Each vehicle design uses a chip specifically for that vehicle. Stick with it. If there was a better one the manufacturer would be using it.
