If i get it amended to remove my son. When his dad files can he still claim him? Or will they give me trouble?

Not possible. You have to file an amended return. It is not usually that easy to just switch who takes the deduction. They must qualify for it.

Once it is filed you can not "cancel" it.

You can amend it to remove your son. This return will have to be mailed in. Your son's dad will probably also have to be mailed in as the IRS's will show you already claiming your son.

File a 1040x asap. But I would wait till I got the refund. Then you can return the refund if you get one with the 1040x. I dont think you can cancel anything, you filed it. But you can undo it, with a 1040x. But You better wait and get your 1040x files before he tries to file and claim the child.

Yes, file an amended return (1040X for federal purposes).
