i could be wrong, but this sounds exactly what my son went through at this age. it's called a night terror. dont freak out. it's not as bad as it sounds. for an idea on what this is, go to

my son never remembered any of the episodes. they were scary for my husband and me, but when we asked our pediatrician, he said it's best to not try to wake them up b/c it can aggrevate the episode. they dont remember anything about the night before at this age. when he would "wake up" in this screaming state, we would stand at the doorway and make sure he wasnt getting up or anything, but we would just watch im. it was really hard not to go to him b/c he was screaming bloody murder, but the episodes didnt last as long when we didnt "interfere".

i would ask your pediatrician to be sure, but i think this might be it.

Sounds like it's pretty normal behavior but you haven't said how long she's been doing this and I have to wonder what else is going on in your lives. Is everything else going well? Any issues at home such as parents fighting, just moved to new home, mom went back to work, daycare or sitter changes, etc.? You might want to investigate yourself why she is doing this first.

Talk to your pediatrician about it. He should be able to give you specific advice for your child's needs.
