you can give her a room temperature bath, but absolutely DO NOT give her a cool or cold bath. Contrary to popular belief, these will actually RAISE her temperature as opposed to lowering it, because her brain will sense the coolness on her skin, and will tell her bodies internal thermometer that she is cold, and will raise the temperature even more. The best thing would be to give her some pedialyte, or some cool (not ice cold) water, lie her down, keep her comfortable temperature wise (don't make her too hot or cold), moniter her for a little while, and if the temperature doesn't go down, take her to the ER. Also, if it is an underarm temp, you need to add a degree for accuracy. Check for any other symptoms (such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, dizziness, etc etc), mark them down, and talk to a doctor. A high temperature can be a sign of something more serious, or could be due to a viral illness. My son, at 6 months, had a fever of 103.5. I took him to the ER, they ran a few tests, and said he was fine. They do worry about fever induced seizures, but as my doctor told me "If it doesn't happen when the temperature first spikes, then chances are it won't happen at all". Trust your instincts, first and foremost. Take her to a doctor if you are worried and can't ease your worries. Good luck.

try the bath and then get her to the ER if it's not working. 103F for two days is too long. Children under the age of 5 are capable of getting as high as 105F without any lasting damage. Recent Studies have shown that NOT treating a fever 103 or under may actually help children recover more quickly for illness presently and in their future. The idea being that the body responds to infection by heating itself up to kill off the bacteria. And that by not treating it you allow the body to develop it's own immunity much more successfully. That being said, two days is too long. You run the risk of febrile seizure (which is horrifying to watch- you'll think she's dead) which is where the body convulses due to the temperature. If motrin isn't working, then something else is in play. They'll try the bath in the ER if you don't at home. Please don't wait.

My doctor's office wants to see the children if they have had a fever for 3 consecutive days unless something strange is going on. Did your child have the flu shot? Don't they make meds that they can give you that can stop the flu symptoms? NOT SURE OF THAT..............I've heard it mentioned.
You can rotate Ibuprofen or Tylenol. Also a lukewarm bath. My kids don't like the bath, so I wipe them down with a lukewarm wash rag.
Call the doctor or afterhours number at your Pediatrician's office, leave a detailed message symptoms and when the fever started. Wait for the doctor to call you back.
You can give your daughter the Ibuprofen or Tylenol while you wait for the doctors call (unless she is allergic) and that way the meds will start working to bring down her fever.
The doctor may want you to take her to the ER or he may want you to wait until tomorrow. Saying a prayer for your little one. IT is hard when our babies are sick.
She will be fine. Keep a close eye on that fever.

This is what I do and it works great. When my 2 year old is sick I take off his clothing and diaper and put some rubbing alochol on a washrag and wipe him down with it repeatedly. After the first wipe down diaper or lightly clothe her, It breaks the fever within anywhere from half an hour to a few hours. I learned this from my grandma. My aunt had a fever so high that it did fry her brain, and the doctors taught her this method, and has helped her keep fevers down.

Yes a lukewarm full bath is best. And try giving her voltaren or adol suppositories 12.5 mg stregth every 8 hours with 1.5 ml adol syrup every four hours. Give her lots of liquids, and keep sponging her with cold water especially on her neck, under arms and body. If her temperature does not go down after the voltaren give her another bath. If she continues having fever maybe you should put her on antibiotics as she may be having an infection.

Take her to the hospital. The shaking could be a febrile seizure caused by a change in temp. They'll prolly want you to give both motrin and tylenol to overlap, so the temp stays in control.

use Tylenol and Motrin, just rotate them. give her one when she needs it and then the other when it's time to give again. my son always gets fevers that will not respond to only one type of medication.
