We have a piece of marble that has been etched with some acidic substance such as lemon juice. Is there a way at home to polish or buff it so the surface can shine again? Any experts out there?

Marble is of course a limestone and very soft compared to granite.

You can easily polish that out to even a high luster with wet/dry sand paper mounted on a solid wood block. Always keep wet with water and float out the particles. Start with like 1000 gritt, the advance to 2000 grit. Then you can even go higher super polish with a polishing compound and a plain wood block.

If your local hardware dont have these wet dry grits try an automotive store like NAPA , one that handles Auto Paint they have sheets 8x11 costing $1 each. So you can see you can do it for nearly nothing save your own elbow grease.

If you go to LOWES we have a countertop cleaner that will work for marble. It is in the cleaning supplies next to the paint department.
