well i run the 400 at my high school and i've been running it since i was a freshman and my time has improved each year from a 56 my freshman year to a 49 going into my senior year and i finshed third in my state last year all by doing this.... when you start off the race make sure you run the frist 100 meters fast and then when you get on the back strech of the track start to lengthin your stride and make sure you are in the top three or four so that way you can keep up with the pace and the leader's and as you get to the 200 yard mark and are going into the turn that will put you on the front strech start to pump your arms and get your foot speed going and make that final kick when you hit the 100 yard mark and just keep pumping your arm's

give it your all! my coach always says if you dieing on the floor for a couple minutes thats when you know you gave it your all.

dont go way to fast that you cant finish it because thats what i use to do but then i decided to slow down in the begginning & speed up near the end it helped alot
if it works for you make sure you email me back :)

You have to pace yourself. Don't use up all your energy at once! Good Luck :)
