I live in a humid climate where the water just pours out of the airconditiong condenser outlet pipe. Assuming that the pipework etc is clean, is it safe to drink this water?

I've installed and serviced HVAC units for years, and my advice would be not to drink that water. A lot of the dust and dirt within your home sticks to the coils inside the air handler, and that coil is where the water comes from. It may also sit stagnant for a while in a drip pan below the coil. I've seen a lot of coils and pans with mold all over them, and yet the water still looked clean coming out of the pvc pipe.

HVAC techs also use strong chemicals to clean those coils on service calls, which could obviously be hazardous to your health.

However, in between cleanings it's a good source of water for your indoor/outdoor plants.

i would assume so, but since its condensation, it does not contain any minerals, so its pure water...
