The boot is designed so if you are not careful, the beer splashes out and hits you in the face. It takes practice, but it can be done.

Yeah, it makes it much harder. The way the boot is designed an air bubble forms in the toe. As you drink it moves toward the heel, so as it hits the heel you have to twist the boot otherwise the bubble will move up the boot and shoot the beer out onto you. It's pretty tough to actually master the boot. It's a timing thing.
