Options and body styling. They are both built on the midship platform and share the same motor. Although the Maxima has more horsepower and torque ratings than the Altima. I prefer the Altima, because they typically weigh less.

The engine, the tuning of the engine and the dollar amount. I have an Altima and the dealer told me there isn't much difference in the two. The Maxima has a little bit more interior space. The Maxima's moon roof is what they call a mohawk roof unlike in the Altima it's only over the front seats. The engine is basically the same only slightly bigger in the Maxima and tuned just a little different. He told me if I wanted to waste the extra money by the Maxima but I'd get the same from the Altima. I saved myself a whole lot of money and got the Altima. I've driven both and feel I made the right choice.

The Maxima is Nissan's flagship large car, the Altima is the breadwinner mid-size model. The Maxima comes already upgraded in many area's which is why the base price is much higher then the Altima's. However, when comparing them with the same equipment you'd see that the Maxima is less then $1000 higher in price, but also has more features available then the Altima. You could conclude that the Maxima is more exclusive, either car is great though so you can't go wrong. As you'll notice on the street though, about 70% of Altima's are sold with the 2.5 litter 4 cylinder engine.

All maximas are v6 and the altima comes in both 4 and v6. I have an 04 altima, v6 of course, and i like it. I want the 07 now, but i really cant complain! Maximas have a little more room than the Altimas, but the Altima is certainly not lacking in room. Its a very comfy car! If you are looking to buy, I would recommend the Altima. Get the 07 with a V6...id be so jealous!

Altima is a midsized sedan that comes in a 4 cyl. engine or a v6 which is actually the same engine thats in the Maxima (but its tuned different).
Maxima is a full sized sedan and comes in a standard V6 and it has more interrior room than the Altima.
both cars have the same features in them except the Maxima comes with a standard Sky veiw moon roof and alot more standard features like alloy wheels and such.
