Of course. Many people sleep with their mouths open, whether or not they snore. In fact, I would venture to guess that the older you get, the more likely this is. So your throat gets dry. If in addition, you get dust in the air, or chemicals from someone spraying their hair, or smoke from people burning wood for heat, you may wake up with an irritation that wears off fairly quickly.

Or you could wake up with the first manifestations of disease process because what you inhaled included cold germs or a flu virus. Just sleeping in the same bed with someone who has those germs can often pass them to you, airborne on droplets of moisture. It will often mean you get the same disease a day or two after your bed partner was infected from somewhere else.

If you always keep cough syrup on hand, as I do because I have allergies, you may find that going to bed with a dose of cough syrup will help. I find I have much less coughing from dust and other allergens if I soothe my perpetually irritated throat with cough syrup so I can get to sleep. This protects my throat from the irritation that comes from choking while you cough, a thing which can happen easily if you sleep on your back.
