is spanking more affective than grounding or restricting access to certain things?

Both are effective. Grounding best after age 6 up to adulthood, spanking works good from about 2-12. It all depends on what they did. I would rank grounding as a easier punishment then spanking. Mainly because spanking is the one punishment which my children will do anything to avoid. Maybe yours are different, if grounding works then their is no need for the spanking. Every child is different. However I'd never cut out spanking as a form of consequence. Use it rarely YES, but don't cut it out.

GOOD LUCK

It really depends on the child. For some, spanking could be harmful; for some, grounding (including taking restricting access) may be impossible to police; but for others, you may not have to punish at all.

My girls are 9 and 12 and I have spanked and grounded, all with outstanding behavioural changes.

I don't believe in any type of physical punishment, I can honestly say that the only time I've ever laid a hand on my kids was when they were still in diapers and would run out in the road, try to touch a hot stove burner, etc. Sometimes a toddler will not listen to anything and a swat on the diapered rear is the only way to get their attention. But otherwise, I have never hit them and neither has their dad.

Having said that, I won't deny there have been times I have wanted to! And I have actually told them that I wanted to smack them, and then left the room so that I wouldn't. That usually got their attention also. What we usually do is to take away computer privileges, withhold allowance, restrict going out places and so on.

So to answer your question, I believe that grounding and restricting privileges is much more effective than spanking, because all you're teaching them when you hit them, is that it's OK to solve problems with violence.

I usually got both. But it depends on the situation. My mom's wooden spoon bare bum or a week grounding, I'll take the week. A month grounded from online or a hand spank, I'll take the spanking.

Depends on the child. Sometimes neither work. We'ver tried both. For our younger daughter a little pop on the bottom is most effective but for our oldest, neither works. She doesn't care much about the consequences of either, so we end up sending her to her room (for a certain amount of time) to write a paragraph or sentences about why she's in trouble. But like I said...it depends on the kid.

How approximately neither? actual abuse shouldn't in any respect be an decision, and manipulation by using taking what concerns to them isn't good the two. Why do no longer you communicate on your infant, tell them what they have been doing is faulty and why, and attempt to lead them? enable babies make their very own blunders and learn from them. in case you have a physically powerful courting along with your babies, which starts with verbal replace and admire (on the two ends), then they might desire to hearken to once you supply them suggestion. I even have considered this technique artwork via some family contributors acquaintances of mine. they're a very close knit family contributors and admire one yet another very a lot. they're all very imaginitive, clever, and that they make stable judgements. they're very close knit. The "babies" are throughout sixteen now, yet they nonetheless come to their mom for suggestion. i do no longer in many cases see that the place spanking grew to become into in contact. in spite of the undeniable fact that some babies needless to say deserve it, I nonetheless do no longer think of that's appropriate.

Yes it usually is. But a combination of both is MOST effective. And the spankings should be barfe bottomed with a neutral instument (hairbrush, paddle, wooden spoon, etc.)

I agree that it depends on the kid. You have to do whatever works best for your child and the situation.
