just celebrated my daughter's 1st two months ago. the best thing to do is KEEP IT SIMPLE!!! don't go overboard with decorations, it could scare her. ballons are a choking hazard if they pop, so don't use them. invite family and friends that she is familiar with so she doesn't feel overwhelmed. schedule it after nap time so you are not dealing with a house full of people and a cranky child at the same time. if you do food...try to get a party sub with chips and dip. do a cupcake for her "smash cake" because she doesn't need all the sugar and empty calories. take lots and lots of pictures, and have fun.

That sounds amazing!!! You sound like awesome parents!!! I would probably send out invites about now so that people can organise christmas outings around your daughters amazing birthday!!! For the cake it could be a photo one with a collage of photos from her first year? Or if she loves say milky buttons or something it could be a milky button cake, something she'd enjoy. Or it could be a big bunny? Or if she has a toy that she loves it could be a cake version of the toy? Or you could have a tier cake and have each tier symbolising something like a three tier cake 1st tier: her fav nursery rhyme and a cake symbolising that (eg. the cow jumped over the moon, it could be a hemisphere cake with a cow in top and a spoon and a dish etc. )2nd tier: fav song, a cake symbolising that, 3rd tier: her favourite cartoon character or something and a tier symbolising that. That way it is really personal. You could get a proffesional photographer or an ammateur and get really special photos. :) You could have balloons made, each with a photo of your daugter. Also you could make her a scrap book of her first year and then include her first birthday at the end. It'll be a lovely keepsake for her when she is older. Also make a video diary of the day!!! It would be lovely!!! :) Oh how I wish I had a baby... Have a great day. :)

Get her a personal cake and let her rip it apart. A 1 year old could care less about a birthday party. I know you think they would but they will not. Plan something that you would actually enjoy with a few family members and friends where she can be there also and call it a day.

I spent 2200 on my daughter's first birthday. I held a fancy luncheon with magician and a clown. The party only lasted 2 hours. It was the biggest waste of money ever!!
Although it is my daughter's first and it was full of wonderful family to share it with, I never did anything like that again. The best time we had was when I took her to Disneyland for her 3rd birthday. Just the three of us, and took her to meet all the characters. It was the best day of her life, full of amazing laughs and smiles. And the total for the day was 300 bucks including tickets. So Do something that you know she's interested in.

invite your closest friends and family. Have a lunch gathering, have a beer and relax. I'd get a cake for the guests and a small one for her so she can smash it up. The one-year birthday really is for Mom and Dad to celebrate "surviving" the first year. Have fun with it and don't be too saddened if she ends up sleeping through it. Have fun!

A party for a one year old should be small, low key, and it should last no more than a couple of hours. It should also be at a time that is good for your child (right after nap time).

When they're that young its mostly so the parents can take pictures :) Is she a princess? You could have a pretty princess type party and make all the woman wear tiara's and the boys wear crowns. When my son was that age I made a little cake just for him and then got one for the guests. That way he could destroy the little one and we would still have one to eat! Makes for great pictures!

Save your money, have it in your house, or a family members house. Setup a bank account for her, and put all the money into it!
Some folks spend thousands.... in the end it depends on if you have the extra cash.... If you do rent a hall and invite 200 people!! I think thats a bit silly as they make it like a wedding.... First dance with mom and dad, cut the cake....
