well i think you should be able to straighten your hair.
you can buy this stuff at any store and it is heat activated and it protects your hair, so there isn't " as much" damage, and then you can use the damage help shampoo and conditioner. good luck!
p.s there are a lot of products that help with protecting your hair.
i think one brand is thermasilk, they have spray and this cream stuff so when you straighten your hair it is protected.

If your mom is dead set on not letting you straighten your hair with a flat iron, there are other alternatives. Look for shampoos and conditioners that relax your hair. I've had friends that have had semi curly hair and great luck with these products. Also, i use a chemical relaxer called Strait-Line. I put this in my wet hair before i blow dry, and then i go back straighten it with a flat iron. This method actually strengthens your hair. But either way, you should always put something on your hair before you straighten it. This goes a long way to preventing damage or causing split ends.

I hate to be the one to agree, but straightening is VERY damaging for your hair. If you google it, there are tons of sites about it and, speaking from personal experience, after straightening my hair broke off and became uneven and split. I have tried it several times and each time, the same result. Trust me, your natural hair is better than a wig to cover the damage.

It depends on the kind of straightner you use and what kind of hair that you have, whether it's fine or thick. If you're not careful it can be damaging to your hair if you don't know how to use it.

I have to agree with your mom on this one... it does do some damage to your hair. The more natural the better.
