Well first of all it's fun. But as a former christian I do know quite a bit about the bible and I enjoy debating religion with others. I am no longer *searching* for meaning to my life. I found it when I became an atheist. Also I want to remind people that this country was not founded on christianity and that we need to keep the religious beliefs away from our laws and out of our government.

When I first visited this section, I saw a lot of misconceptions about atheists being thrown around. I also saw a lot of people who shared the same views as I do responding to those questions and comments. I felt that my opinion was just as valid as any one else's...so I stayed. As a former Christian, I feel this is the right place for me to have a voice.

Believe it or not, because theists view the world from such a different point of view, I find discussions with them often yield useful knowledge and insights, even though I may not agree with their theistic beliefs.
Many theists make genuinely good points without religious overtones. Whether they realize it or not, their arguments are often times more humanistic than theistic.
Also, intelligent theists help me sharpen my debating skills, and I like to learn as much as possible about my adversaries.
In short, although we disagree, there is still something that can be gained from a person who can see things as I cannot.

I like to hear what other people say on different topics. Its always good to get a new perspective.
I like to interact with other people who are discussing human spirituality. I believe that religion gives an answer to many questions about human spirituality but I haven't found a religion that I agree with100%, or even 50%.

I have a couple reasons....
I'm really interested in the debate back & forth
I sometimes weigh in on inaccuracies I know for a fact are wrong
I may learn something.
I'm an atheist who doesn't have a problem with whatever anybody wants to believe.

To see how people think, react, and so on, and by being forced to defend or explain my beliefs, I can further my own understanding on these topics. After all, the more ways you can see any given situation, the clearer everything becomes.
