It's "phlegm", and you need a decongestant. But a cold won't go away in two days.

Sudafed is a wonder drug. It helps dry up nasal congestion and get rid of the flem. You may want to purchase Alavert D or Claritin D, both an antihistimine and a nose drier upper. Also, these won't make you groggy or sleepy. Have fun.

This works for me. Put your head in the sink, put a big/heavy towel over your head and sink. Run hot (hot as you can) water and brief in through your nose as much steam as you can. After about 5 minutes blow your nose--clean it out. Stay under the towel for another 3-6 minutes, longer if you can. Do it 5-6 times a day--more at night. Good luck.

8 oz of water, 2 tbp of lemon, 1 tbp of maple syrup, a hint of cayenne pepper. Great for the colds, excellent to speed up your metabolism and burn fat. Be careful though, the maple syrup tends to inhibit hunger. Make sure you eat or this will make you lose weight. Put the cayenne pepper just before you are getting ready to drink it. The longer it sits in the water, the hotter it will get.

Mucinex is an over-the-counter med that contains an expectorant to thin and loosen mucus. If you are also congested, get Mucinex-D, it has an added decongestant.

Also, drink plenty of fluids, more than usual. I find that constantly (and I mean constantly!) drinking water is especially effective.

rinse your sinuses with a mild saline solution and eat lots of garlic, citrus fruits and drink tea
and try this recipe to clear the congestion temporarily

1/2 cup tomato sauce (salsa works too)
3 cloves chopped raw garlic
a couple squirts of hot sauce
3 spoonfuls lemon juice
1/2 cup water

mix it all together, heat for 2-3 minutes in microwave then drink
it does wonders for me when I have zero patience for dealing with colds

you can take paracetamol and brufen together, and try steam inhalation - eucalyptus is nice in the hot water but don't mind if you don't have any. boil the kettle, tip water into a bowl, put on a flat sturdy surface and make a tent over your head and breathe in that steam! Good for your skin too.
